Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to introduce myself with all required details as a new employee in this company.
I had completed my post graduation in early childhood educator last year. For the last six months, I am working in this field at kindergarden in Brampton where I am dealing with twenty kids. I moved to Toronto due to some personal reason, so I joined this workplace recently.
I was working with less kids at previous place but its a big organisation, I need your assistance to understand work policies, kids requirement such as any health issue or food allergies to deal with. I am not very much aware about the rules and regulations, please explain me in brief so that I can follow them easily.
I will be grateful if we could meet as quickly as we can for the meeting. I am thinking to meet at meeting room after work hours for an hour to discuss everything. Would it work for you? Please let me know; otherwise we will choose any different location which works for you.
Thanks for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Navpreet Dhillon

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a suitable, polite tone for writing to a workplace mentor. Your studies and experience are outlined, including your postgraduate qualification, six months in a kindergarten, and move to Toronto. You also explain the support you want with workplace policies and children’s health or food allergies, then propose a meeting after work and invite Luis to suggest another location. These details make the purpose clear. To strengthen the response further, develop the kind of career guidance you hope to receive, not only practical help with rules and children’s needs. You could also make the meeting proposal more specific by suggesting a day or offering a couple of possible times.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, background, the help you need, and meeting arrangements. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “I am writing to introduce myself” and “Please let me know” help the reader follow your purpose. The closing is also appropriate. To make the flow more polished, connect some related ideas more smoothly. For example, the move to Toronto and joining the workplace could be linked more directly to your previous experience. The repeated requests for assistance and explanation in the third paragraph could also be consolidated, so the paragraph feels less like a list and more like a focused explanation of what you hope to learn.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant workplace terms such as “work policies,” “health issue,” “food allergies,” and “rules and regulations.” The tone is generally courteous and the meaning remains clear. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however, which limits precision: “post graduation in early childhood educator” does not express the qualification idiomatically, and “kids requirement” is unclear. “Kindergarden” is also misspelled, while “some personal reason” would be more natural in the plural. Aim for accurate, conventional phrases rather than adding formal wording such as “all required details”; a direct introduction would sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause (“I moved to Toronto due to…”) and a conditional question (“Would it work for you?”). Most errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Some verb forms and sentence patterns need more control: “For the last six months, I am working” should use the present perfect continuous, and “I had completed” is not the natural tense for describing a qualification completed last year. In “please explain me in brief,” the verb pattern is incorrect; use “explain the rules to me.” Check articles and possessives as well, as in “at a kindergarten” and “its a big organisation” (where “it’s” is needed).
