Dear....... ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to introduce myself to you as I joined the company recently and informed that you are going to be my mentor.
Let me introduce myself first.i am Azim Munshi and I just finished my 3 months training. I have done bachelors in Mechanical engineering and post graduate diploma in project management. I was working as a Maintenance helper at my previous job for 6 months and hired here as a Maintenance technician.
In order to become a successful individual, I think your help and guidance would play a huge role. I might need your expertise in getting Milwright licence as you already have one and i think your mentorship will be extremely improtant to get me this. Additionally, It's been complex sometimes to resolve an issue by your own, in such cases I think, I will approach you for the help.
I am really keen for our first meeting. Although, you are very busy person, we can work out on timings for our meet next week. My availability is Monday to friday between 2 to 4 PM. If this time slot works for you then let me know, we can arrange accordingly, otherwise, let me know your availability and I will adjust.
I am looking forward to working with you. Thnak you for your time and guidance in making my career more successful.
Yours Sincerely,
Azim Munshi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose throughout. Your studies and experience are specific: you mention a mechanical engineering degree, a project-management diploma, six months as a maintenance helper, and your new technician role. You also explain the support you want, particularly help obtaining a millwright licence and resolving work problems, and propose a first meeting next week with a clear availability window. These details make the letter relevant and useful. To develop the ideas further, explain briefly what kind of guidance you would value in preparing for the licence or handling technical issues. The request is already clear, but a little more detail would make the support you seek more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce yourself, describe your background, explain the help you hope to receive, and then suggest a meeting. Separate paragraphs make these stages easy to follow, and phrases such as “Additionally” and “In order to” help connect related points. The meeting proposal is especially practical because you give a time window and invite your mentor to suggest an alternative. Some transitions and references are less smooth: “Although, you are very busy person” interrupts the flow, and “this time slot” could be made more explicit by referring to your proposed weekday availability. Use linking expressions more naturally and check that each sentence connects clearly to the one before it; this would make the organisation feel less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introductory letter, including relevant terms such as “project management,” “Maintenance technician,” “expertise,” and “guidance.” These choices communicate your background and goals clearly. You also attempt more specific workplace language, particularly when referring to a licence and resolving issues. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “successful individual,” “get me this,” and “complex sometimes to resolve an issue by your own.” There are also spelling errors, including “improtant” and “Thnak.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and polish. Prefer natural professional phrases and proofread carefully, especially for spelling and expressions describing support.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional language in “If this time slot works for you” and a subordinate clause beginning “Although.” Most of the message remains understandable, and you can communicate several connected ideas in longer sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “I joined the company recently and informed” is missing a subject and verb structure for the second clause; “I just finished my 3 months training” needs a more accurate article or possessive construction; and “you are very busy person” is missing an article. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, as in “first.i” and “i think.” Review articles, complete clause structures, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your varied sentence forms.
