Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You successfully gave a brief outline of your previous studies and work experience by mentioning your 12th in commerce stream, your business-marketing diploma from Conestoga College, and your previous job as an accountant. You also explained what help you hope your mentor can provide regarding tax processes for platforms like Uber and Lyft, and you suggested arrangements for a first meeting on Monday 3rd October, 2026, at a cafe bar in Toronto. The tone is appropriate for an introductory letter to a colleague. Although there are some minor conversational digressions and awkward phrasings, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, earning a band score of 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt, such as the introduction, background, expectations, and meeting arrangements. Cohesive devices are used, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or awkward, such as 'First of all, i am going to tell you about...' and 'because your office has a lot of different ways...'. Paragraphing is generally handled well, creating a coherent overall arrangement. However, referencing and transitions between sentences could be smoother and more natural to achieve a higher band score. Therefore, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your meaning regarding your educational background and work experience. You attempted some subject-specific vocabulary such as 'commerce stream', 'Business-marketing diploma', and 'accountant'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'give my brief interoduction', 'gave resined', and 'filling taxes, other benefits and that tax which should be pay'. Spelling errors like 'interoduction', 'oher', 'resined', 'definietly', and 'sincerly' also detract from the quality of the writing. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they limit the score to a 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your writing. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, such as 'i am going to write this letter to you to give my brief interoduction' (tense and word choice), 'them i i have done' (repetition and tense error), 'that tax which should be pay' (passive voice error), and punctuation issues such as missing capitalisation for 'i' and proper nouns like 'Tronto'. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to impact the overall control of grammar and punctuation, supporting a band score of 5.5.
