Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You provide a brief and relevant outline of your previous studies and work experience by mentioning your diploma as an 'Autobody refinish technician' and your 'experience of 2 years as prepper'. You clearly explain the help you hope to receive from your mentor, specifically mentioning your passion for project cars and your desire to learn 'precise paint matching techniques'. Finally, you suggest appropriate arrangements for a first meeting by offering three distinct options: a chat on a break, a virtual zoom meeting, or breakfast on the upcoming weekend. The tone is polite, appropriate for a workplace introduction, and fully addresses the communicative purpose of the task. Overall, this represents a strong performance that fulfills all requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and is logically organised into appropriate paragraphs. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: an introduction and background, your future goals and expected help, and finally, meeting suggestions. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'As you are currently on leave' to connect your ideas. However, paragraphing and punctuation could be slightly more polished. For instance, the sentence starting with 'As you are currently on leave, I have couple of suggestions for meeting, we can have a talk...' contains comma splices that make the flow run together. Better use of full stops or semicolons would improve the structural cohesion. Nonetheless, the message is easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate to good range of vocabulary suited to the workplace and technical context, using terms such as 'apprentice painter', 'special techniques', and 'refinishing of vehicles'. You also attempt less common phrases like 'extensive efforts' and 'at your earliest convenience'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'wirting' instead of writing, 'join' instead of joined, 'pationate' instead of passionate, 'helpfull' instead of helpful, 'breafast' instead of breakfast, and 'egarly' instead of eagerly. Furthermore, phrasing like 'looking for a start to put my extensive efforts' sounds slightly unnatural. Despite these lexical and spelling inaccuracies, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'As', 'Therefore', and 'Moreover'. There are, however, several grammatical slips and punctuation errors present in the writing. For example, there are spacing issues and missing capitalisation in phrases like 'introduce myself,I recently join' and 'Therefore, i am looking'. Articles are also occasionally missing, such as in 'I have couple of suggestions' instead of 'a couple of suggestions'. While these errors do not impede communication, they do recur, placing your performance firmly within the Band 6 descriptor where a mix of simple and complex structures is accompanied by some persistent grammatical and punctuation errors.
