Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to give details for my new mentor. I am excited to meet you.
As you know I pursued my degree of Bachelor Of Physiotherapy from my college in 2024. After that I completed my internship. Also doing work in a clinic as a Junior Physiotherapist for 2 years. But I decided to leave because I want to gain experience in the hospital.
I believe mentor can help me in several ways. Since I am beginner and have opportunity for seeing many cases such as in ICU, OPD, IPD and Cardiac issue. I need to learn alot. I believe mentor will help me for solving any critical case such as Neuro Rehabilitation and help me to prescribe new exercises. How to give advice and support to patient.
If I have a chance to see my senior doctor who can help me and guide me. I will follow their path. I always respect them not because of senior but because of their experience and patience.
I believe they will help me. I do not want to do any mistake but if I do. Please forgive me. But I am excited for meeting you. Thank you for your consideration. I hope you will recieve positive feedbacks in the future.
Yours faithfully,
Rajandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully give a brief outline of your previous studies and work experience by mentioning your Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in 2024 and your subsequent internship and clinic work. You also explain what help you hope your mentor can give, such as assisting with critical cases and providing guidance in ICU and OPD settings. Finally, you attempt to suggest arrangements for a first meeting, mentioning that you are excited to meet and expressing eagerness to connect. However, the tone fluctuates slightly, and addressing the reader as 'Dear Sir' is inappropriate since the prompt specifies you have been given details of your mentor, meaning their name or gender would likely be known, though 'Dear Sir' is acceptable if the name is unknown. The development is mostly clear, though some parts are slightly repetitive, leading to a Band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a standard letter structure with a greeting and sign-off. However, paragraphing is somewhat choppy, with several very short paragraphs that break the flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and are sometimes mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'I believe' and 'Also doing work'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the transition between discussing specific medical cases and general statements about respecting senior doctors. While the message is understandable, the logical progression between sentences and paragraphs lacks smoothness, which places this response firmly at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your professional background as a physiotherapist using terms like 'Junior Physiotherapist', 'Neuro Rehabilitation', and 'OPD'. However, there are noticeable limitations and word choice errors, such as 'Also doing work' instead of 'I also worked', and 'do any mistake' instead of 'make any mistake'. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but inaccuracies in collocation and word formation prevent you from achieving a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary remains restricted to fairly basic or repetitive structures ('I believe mentor can help... I believe mentor will help...'), resulting in a Band 5.5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several sentence fragments and errors, such as 'Also doing work in a clinic as a Junior Physiotherapist for 2 years', which lacks a subject and finite verb. Other errors include 'Since I am beginner' (missing article) and 'help me for solving' instead of 'help me to solve' or 'help me solve'. Punctuation and capitalization are generally acceptable, but frequent structural errors in complex sentences cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar from reaching a higher band level, earning a 5.5.
