Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir,
I am writing to let you know about my mentor regarding work as it will help to enhance productivity at work.
My previous study is very helpful in it as i have done 4 years of degree in automotive mechanics along with that I have 2 years of work experience in car repair and I know how to deal with clients.
My mental ability is to provide better service to the customers owing to this, sales of your workplace will go up and and mantain the customers to come regularly. Cheap prise than other helps people to come forword in the shop and get rid of their issues with their car.
Arrangements will become a great impression because of high quality of work not only this but there would also some helpful guids provided to those who have almost zero knowledge about this industry. I will be waiting to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Prabhjot Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers the main points of the prompt, but the bullet points are not fully or appropriately addressed in places. You successfully gave a brief outline of your previous studies and work experience, stating that you have a 4-year degree in automotive mechanics and 2 years of repair experience. However, the explanation of what help you hope your mentor can give and the suggestions for a first meeting are somewhat confused and blend into irrelevant business pitches about sales and pricing (e.g., 'sales of your workplace will go up'). The greeting is also inappropriate for a workplace mentor, as you addressed the letter to 'Dear sir' instead of the mentor's name or a suitable professional salutation. Overall, the communication is partially achieved, fitting a Band 5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter lacks a clear logical progression and suffers from mechanical and confusing paragraph transitions. While paragraphing is attempted, the flow of ideas breaks down between paragraphs because sentences introduce sudden shifts in topic, such as moving from repair experience directly into customer sales pitches and shop pricing strategies. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and the vague referencing in phrases like 'Arrangements will become a great impression', which fails to clearly suggest a meeting time or place. Overall, the structural progression is disjointed, placing this text at a Band 5 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and occasionally inappropriate for the context. You used some relevant field-specific vocabulary such as 'automotive mechanics' and 'car repair', but word choices are frequently unnatural or imprecise, such as 'mental ability' when you likely meant 'mentality' or 'aim', and 'Cheap prise' (misspelled price). Other phrases like 'get rid of their issues' and 'come forword' display noticeable spelling and collocation errors that hinder natural expression. Although the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the repetition and awkward phrasing restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text contains a limited range of grammatical structures and numerous errors. While there are a few simple correct sentences, attempts at complex sentences frequently result in faulty syntax, run-on sentences, and punctuation errors. Examples include 'My previous study is very helpful in it as i have done 4 years of degree...' and 'not only this but there would also some helpful guids provided...'. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('mantain the customers'), capitalization of the pronoun 'I', and missing verbs. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and align with the Band 5 descriptors.
