Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to introduce myself as I have recently joined the company and have been informed that you will be my mentor.
I completed my Intermediate education in Commerce, where I developed an interest in business, management and working with people. I also have experience in sales, including working as a Floor Manager. This experience helped me improve my communication, teamwork and customer-service skills. It also taught me how to deal with different types of people and solve problems in a professional way.
As I am new to the company, I hope you can help me understand the working environment and give me advice on how to develop my professional skills. In particular, I would appreciate your guidance on communication, teamwork, time management and career development. I would also like to learn from your experience and understand how I can become more successful in my role.
Regarding our first meeting, I would be happy to meet you during a lunch break or after working hours. We could meet in the office cafeteria or another convenient place. Please let me know which day and time would suit you best.
I look forward to meeting you and learning from your experience.
Yours sincerely,
Muhtashim

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. You provided a clear outline of your previous studies and work experience, specifically mentioning your education in Commerce and your background as a Floor Manager. You also clearly explained what help you hope to receive from your mentor, including guidance on communication, teamwork, time management, and career development. Furthermore, you suggested suitable arrangements for a first meeting, offering to meet during a lunch break or after hours in the office cafeteria. All parts of the task are well-addressed with relevant and fully developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your letter is logically sequenced, with each paragraph serving a clear, distinct purpose in line with the prompt requirements. You transition smoothly from your introduction to your educational and professional background, then to your expectations of the mentorship, and finally to meeting arrangements. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout. Cohesive devices are handled well without appearing mechanical, ensuring that ideas flow naturally from one sentence to the next. The overall structure is clear and very easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate and flexible range of vocabulary suited to a professional context. Phrases like "working environment," "professional skills," and "convenient place" are used correctly. While the vocabulary is largely straightforward rather than highly sophisticated, it is precise and allows you to communicate your message without any difficulty. There are no notable spelling or word-choice errors, and your choice of register is appropriate for a formal business letter to a colleague.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
Your letter displays good control of grammatical structures, utilising a healthy mix of simple and complex sentences. Examples such as "As I am new to the company, I hope you can help me understand the working environment..." demonstrate your ability to construct multi-clause sentences accurately. Punctuation is used correctly, and subject-verb agreement is well maintained. The majority of your sentences are error-free, with only very minor or occasional slips, representing solid command over grammar at this level.
