Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by introducing you, outlining your background, explaining what help you hope to receive, and suggesting arrangements for a first meeting. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a workplace mentor introduction. However, some bullet points are more fully developed than others. For instance, while your studies and previous work at Tim Hortons are mentioned, the explanation of the help you hope to gain and your career worries are somewhat repetitive and could be extended further to show a clearer purpose. To reach a higher level, all aspects of the prompt should be explored with greater depth and clearer overall development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter structure, moving smoothly from a greeting to background information, your goals, and finally meeting arrangements. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as your studies in one paragraph and your meeting proposal in another. However, cohesion at times feels a little mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the transition into your concerns about future employment. To improve, you can make more natural use of a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your sentences and ideas seamlessly without relying on basic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points effectively, such as mentioning 'Canadore College' and 'team leader'. However, the range is limited and contains noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'join' instead of 'joined', 'meamber' instead of 'member', and 'adminstartion' instead of 'administration'. There are also awkward collocations and phrasing like 'fruitful for me if you can guide for my better future'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict your score. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of less common vocabulary with greater precision and eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'After completing my studies i worked as a team leader...'. However, there are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and articles, such as 'I have recently join', 'guide for my better future', 'want i can i do now', and 'donot have any closed one whuch whom i can share'. Punctuation and capitalization errors, like the lowercase 'i', also occur. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, they persist throughout the text. To reach a higher level, you should aim to increase your control over complex sentence structures and reduce grammatical inaccuracies.
