Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points required in the prompt. You introduce yourself properly to your mentor, provide a clear outline of your previous studies and work experience, explain what kind of help you hope to receive, and suggest practical arrangements for your first meeting. While all parts are addressed, some ideas show a slight imbalance in development. For instance, the explanation of your previous studies is a bit concise and could have been expanded further to fully demonstrate the higher band characteristics. However, your purpose is completely clear throughout the letter, and the tone is polite and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression from introduction to work history, expectations, and finally the meeting arrangements. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct theme of the letter. You use appropriate cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'As i am new to the company', 'I would also like', and 'depending on your availability'. Referencing throughout the text is generally clear, and the overall arrangement of the letter guides the reader smoothly from beginning to end, reflecting a solid structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your professional background effectively using terms like 'instructional designer' and 'employee developement'. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'developpement', 'sevral', 'microfiance', 'secror', and 'professtional'. These errors do not heavily impede communication since the reader can still understand your meaning, but they prevent you from achieving a higher score. Focusing on careful proofreading for spelling and basic word forms will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your letter, utilizing structures like 'I would also like to learn more about the company culture and improve my professtional skills'. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with capitalization, lowercase 'i' pronouns, and punctuation spacing before commas. For instance, writing 'I' am writing' and using lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences and after periods ('developpement .before', 'secror as', 'wednesday afternoon ?we could'). While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they represent persistent mechanical slips that keep the grammatical score at this level.
