Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to introduce myself as I am recently been hired in this organistaion.
My name is Sami. I graduated from NSS university Phillipins with major Administration course, in 2023. Owing to the adequate knowledge of my educational field, I previously worked in a technical firm as an Admin assistant. Now, as I moved here in England, I am glad that I got an opportunity to work in this company as a Junior Assistant Manager.
Nevertheless, since I have heard a lot about your support and guidance for each and every employee in this workplace, I also look forward for your assitance thoroughout my initial period. Despite aquiring similar experince, I believe that this time as being a manager my responsibilities might be transformed, which i would not be as efficient as having your life-long experince in it.
I would be horoned if you can meet me in-person so that I could experince your excellence and generosity as well. If it would suit you, I would like to make meeting arrangements for coming friday at Himalayas restaraunt at 7pm. Once you will confirm it, I will make sure to fix our meeting time and place.
I appreciate your time and look forward to your respond.
Yours faithfully,
Sami Yumm

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt, successfully introducing the writer, outlining studies and work experience, explaining the hope for mentor support, and suggesting arrangements for a first meeting. However, some areas are slightly under-developed or less fully explained. For instance, the specific help hoped for from the mentor is mentioned generally as support and guidance, but could be elaborated further with more specific professional goals. The tone is mostly appropriate for a formal letter, and all requirements are addressed satisfactorily, showing a balance between fully covered and partially extended points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that follows a logical progression from introduction to background, expectations, and finally meeting arrangements. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Nevertheless' and 'Once you will confirm it', though some referencing and transitional phrases can feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the use of 'Despite aquiring similar experince, I believe that this time as being a manager...'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct topics, ensuring the reader can follow the writer's intent without confusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'adequate knowledge', 'excellence and generosity', and 'initial period'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'organistaion', 'Phillipins', 'assitance', 'thoroughout', 'aquiring', 'experince', 'horoned', and 'restaraunt'. While these lexical and spelling inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they prevent the response from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional clauses ('If it would suit you, I would like to...') and relative clauses. There are, however, some errors in grammar, punctuation, and prepositions, such as 'I am recently been hired', 'as I moved here in England' (unnecessary preposition), and 'look forward for your assitance'. Punctuation around clauses also shows occasional lapses, but these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear to the reader.
