Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aman,
I am writing to inform you that I have recently joined your organization. As a new professor, I would like to give you some details regarding my qualification and work experience. In 2015, I have completed my Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Punjab Technical University. After that, I worked as Assistant Professor in Jasdev Singh Sandhu College, Jalvehra for almost 10 years.
As my mentor, I hope you do not mind me offering some suggestions regarding handling the workload, and supporting me in my career development in this firm. It would be helpful if you could introduce me the classes and students of my department, which will provide me assistance to be comfortable during lectures.
I would like to meet you in-person to have a detailed discussion about my job responsibilities and task completion. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute effectively to this establishment and developing learner's career by providing education in appropriate manner.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Your's faithfully,
Ramandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you outline your civil-engineering degree and nearly ten years of teaching, explain the support you want, and express interest in meeting. The details about workload, career development, and getting to know the department are relevant. However, the help you hope to receive is not always clearly framed: “I hope you do not mind me offering some suggestions” sounds as though you will advise the mentor, rather than ask for guidance. The meeting proposal is also general; you do not suggest a time, place, or format. Your purpose is clear overall, but clarifying these points and developing the proposed arrangements would make the letter more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce yourself and your background, describe the support you hope for, then move to a first meeting and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “After that” and “As my mentor” make the sequence apparent. Some connections are less smooth because the request for support is expressed as “offering some suggestions,” which disrupts the intended relationship between the ideas. The final sentence about contributing to the establishment and developing learners’ careers also shifts away from the meeting proposal. Keep each paragraph focused on its purpose and use clearer links between the help you need and how a meeting could address it.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a professional introduction, including “career development,” “job responsibilities,” and “contribute effectively.” These phrases show an attempt to use workplace vocabulary, and your meaning is generally understandable. Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “offering some suggestions” does not express that you want advice, “introduce me the classes” is not the usual phrasing, and “developing learner’s career” is unclear and awkward. “Your organization” and “this firm” are also somewhat repetitive. Aim for precise, natural collocations suited to a mentor relationship, such as asking for guidance and an introduction to your department’s classes and students. This would improve flexibility and precision without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the time sequence in “In 2015… After that…” and the conditional “It would be helpful if…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For a completed degree in a specific past year, use “I completed” rather than “I have completed.” In “introduce me the classes,” the verb pattern needs “introduce me to the classes.” The phrase “I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute… and developing…” also has an inconsistent structure; use parallel forms, such as “contribute… and help develop…”. Correcting these patterns would make the letter more consistently accurate while retaining its range.
