Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to arrange a meeting with you.
To begin with, I would like to give you some information about my education and previous job. I have accomplished Bacholers in Project management last year and i used to work as a part time corrdinator in xyz company.
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me about the work culture of our company. I believe this would be very helpful because every company have different culture and it will help me to know the company. Furthermore, it will become easier for me to adjust in the company.
I was wondering whether it would be possible to arrange a meeting. I am available on Monday and Tuesday, but I would be happy to adjust my schedule to suit your convenience.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you mention your project-management studies and coordinator experience, explain that you would value guidance about the company’s work culture, and offer Monday or Tuesday for a meeting. The purpose and tone are appropriate for writing to a mentor. However, the background is quite brief, and the request for support focuses mainly on learning about workplace culture; adding a specific area such as understanding your role, setting career goals, or developing relevant skills would make this point more fully developed. The meeting proposal is polite, but it would be more complete if you suggested a time or place as well. The response is relevant throughout, with some parts developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear sequence: an opening, your background, the help you hope to receive, and a meeting proposal, followed by an appropriate closing. Paragraphing makes these stages easy to identify, and phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “I was wondering whether” help guide the reader. The progression is logical and the message is easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the sequence of “Furthermore” and “because” in the explanation of why workplace culture matters. You could make the connection more natural by combining the repeated explanation into one concise sentence and using a wider variety of transitions. Overall, the organisation is clear and effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, and phrases such as “work culture,” “adjust my schedule,” and “suit your convenience” are appropriate to a professional letter. However, the range is somewhat limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “Bacholers” and “corrdinator” are misspelled, while “accomplished” is not the natural verb for completing a degree. “Part time” also needs a hyphen when used before a noun. Some wording is repetitive, especially the repeated reference to the company’s culture. Aim for accurate spelling and more precise professional expressions, such as describing your qualification as a degree you “completed” and specifying the kind of guidance you seek.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the polite conditional “I would really appreciate it if you could tell me” and the meeting request “I was wondering whether it would be possible.” These structures are generally controlled, and the meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “every company have different culture,” the singular subject requires “has,” and “a different culture” needs an article. The sentence “I have accomplished Bacholers … last year” also has an awkward tense pattern: a completed action at a definite past time is better expressed with the past simple, such as “I completed my bachelor’s degree last year.” Correcting these points while maintaining your range of sentence structures would improve accuracy.
