Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Piyush,

I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you as a new physiotherapy assistant at your physiotherapy department. This will help us to know things better and we will have some common ground for our future work as a team.

I have completed my studies from Government physiotherapy college in the year 2022. Since then, I have been working with a private clinic named 'Healing hands' for ulmost 4 years. It was a great place to work at and I have gained some incredible hands on experience from there.

I want you to introduce me to the department and explain me about my responsibilites. I also want to know about how many off days I can take per year, so I can plan my vacations accordingly.

For that i want to meet you in person and discuss things. Would you be able to meet me this week? if yes, then please write me the time and place through E-mail.

Kind regards,

Mansi Pansuriya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you outline your physiotherapy studies and clinic experience, identify support you want, and propose meeting during the week. The details about your previous role and hands-on experience make the introduction relevant. However, the help you request is not fully focused on career guidance: asking about annual days off and vacation planning is less clearly connected to a mentor’s role than asking for advice on workplace procedures or developing your clinical skills. The meeting suggestion is also quite general, since you do not offer a specific day or time. Develop these points more purposefully and explain what professional guidance you hope to receive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your introduction, background, requested support, and meeting arrangements. This makes the progression easy to follow, and phrases such as “Since then” help connect your study and work history. The opening and closing also suit a personal workplace letter. Some links are less precise: “For that” does not clearly refer to a specific point, and “This will help us to know things better” is vague. The request paragraph would flow more naturally if the professional support and meeting proposal were linked explicitly. More precise referencing and less general linking language would make the organisation feel more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “physiotherapy assistant,” “department,” “responsibilities,” and “hands on experience.” These help establish the workplace context, and your meaning remains clear. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, including “ulmost” and “responsibilites,” while “know things better” is vague and “explain me about” is not a natural collocation. “Off days” is understandable but less suitable than a more precise workplace expression. Aim for accurate, natural phrases when describing your experience and the guidance you need; this will make the letter sound more professional without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “Since then, I have been working…” and the conditional question “Would you be able to meet me this week?” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain: “explain me about my responsibilities” needs a different construction, and “For that i want to meet you…” should begin with a capital letter and would be clearer as “To discuss these matters, I would like to meet you.” The question beginning “if yes” also needs capitalization and more natural punctuation. Review sentence patterns after verbs such as “explain,” as well as capitalization and punctuation, to improve accuracy.
