Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to introduce myself as a new employee in our organisation. I have recieved your details and am pleased to have you as my mentor.
Regarding my educational background, I completed my graduation in commerce. After completing my studies, I prepared for competitive examinations and secured a position as a junior clerk in Agriculture Department. Although I have some experience in administrative work, I am keen to improve my professional skills and gain further knowledge.
I would be grateful if you could guide me in understanding the organisation's procedures and help me improve my communication and time-management skills. In addition, I would appreciate your advice on handling challenging tasks and devoloping my career in long term.
As for our first meeting, I would suggest meeting sometime next week at your convenience. We could meet in the office meeting room for around thirty minutes. Please let me know which time would be suitable for you.
Thank you for offering your time and support. I look forward to meeting you and learning from your valubale experience.
Yours sincerely,
Ankit Dutt

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements clearly: you outline your commerce studies and junior-clerk experience, explain the guidance you want, and propose a meeting next week. The request for help is relevant and specific, particularly your interest in learning organisational procedures and improving communication and time-management. Your meeting suggestion is also practical, with a location and approximate duration. To make the letter more fully developed, add a little detail about the kind of support you would value—for example, how your mentor might help you approach challenging tasks or plan your career. The opening and closing are polite, though using the mentor’s name, if known, would make the introduction more personal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, background, requested support, meeting arrangements, and a courteous closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow each part, and transitions such as “Regarding my educational background,” “In addition,” and “As for our first meeting” make the progression easy to track. The ideas connect logically, and the meeting proposal follows naturally from the request for mentorship. To strengthen cohesion further, vary the transitions slightly and link some related points more explicitly; for instance, you could connect your administrative experience to the procedures you hope to learn. Overall, the structure is effective and the reader can readily identify the purpose of each paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introductory letter, including relevant terms such as “administrative work,” “organisation’s procedures,” and “challenging tasks.” The tone is generally appropriate and your meaning remains clear. However, some spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “recieved,” “devoloping,” and “valubale” should be corrected, while “in long term” is not a natural expression in this context. “Completed my graduation in commerce” is understandable but less idiomatic than a more direct description of your qualification. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common professional collocations; this will make your vocabulary more accurate and natural without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a useful mix of sentence forms, including complex clauses such as “Although I have some experience in administrative work, I am keen to improve my professional skills” and the conditional request “I would be grateful if you could guide me.” Most sentences are clear and grammatically controlled, and punctuation supports the letter’s meaning. A few grammatical patterns need attention, especially the phrase “in long term,” which requires an article or a different construction, such as “in the long term.” You could also make the meeting proposal slightly more direct and natural by writing “I suggest that we meet sometime next week.” Continue using varied structures while checking small grammatical details in otherwise strong sentences.
