Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to introduce myself as a new employee who recently joined organisation.
I completed my Bachelors degree in Doctor of physical therapy in 2020. After that I have a specialization in Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation sciences. My work experience include house job for one year, then I got opportunity to work intenationally as a senior physiotherapist. I learned several skills such as patient assessment, diagnosis and make treatment plan for patients.
I would like to take favour from my mentor in terms of patient handling. As I do not have enough exposure to handle patients in correct way. Therefore, I hope he should teach me by giving practical examples so I can understand effectively.
I really want to meet my mentor so we can discuss our tasks which we will be going to achieve together. The meeting should be in conference room so we can talk in a comfortable enviornment and discuss our desired goals.
I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Talliya Naz,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you outline your physiotherapy studies and work history, explain that you want support with patient handling, and propose meeting in a conference room. The details about your degree, specialisation, house job and international role make the introduction relevant and personal. However, the help you seek is less fully explained: “patient handling” and “practical examples” are useful starting points, but you could specify particular skills or situations you want to discuss. The meeting proposal also lacks a suggested time or a direct question about your mentor’s availability. A more personal greeting and a closing that invites a reply would make the letter feel more complete and appropriately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your background, the support you hope to receive, and the first meeting. This makes the main points easy to locate, and phrases such as “After that” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. The progression is generally logical, though some linking feels mechanical: “Therefore” repeats the reason already introduced by “As,” and the final paragraph moves from wanting to meet to describing the room without proposing a specific time. The references to “my mentor” and “he” are understandable, but you could address the mentor directly and use “you” consistently. A more direct invitation and a clear meeting arrangement would make the cohesion more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introduction, including relevant terms such as “Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation sciences,” “patient assessment,” and “treatment plan.” These details communicate your field and experience clearly, and the tone is mostly suitable for workplace correspondence. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and spelling errors, including “take favour,” “house job,” “intenationally,” and “enviornment.” “Patient handling” is understandable but broad; a more precise phrase could identify the clinical skills you want to develop. Aim to use natural professional collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in key details about your qualifications and requested support.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the purpose clause “so I can understand effectively” and the reason introduced by “As.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “I have a specialization” would be more accurate as “I specialised,” while “My work experience include” needs subject–verb agreement (“includes”). In “I learned several skills such as patient assessment, diagnosis and make treatment plan,” the items in the list are not grammatically parallel. The sentence “we will be going to achieve together” is also awkwardly formed. Review verb tense and agreement, and make list items follow the same grammatical pattern.
