Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Katelyn,

I hope you are doing well! I'm one of the new hires of the company. I am writing to provide you some general background of myself as I am assigned to be under your mentorship for knowledge enhancement and for career prospects.

To begin with, I graduated from Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 2017, since then I have been working as Registered Nurse in Community settings. I have completed some additional course for wound management as well.

Moreover, I came to know you are recognized as Wound Champion Nurse, it will be a great opportunity to adapt some skills you possess especially for my growth in the field. I would also like to know about new updates in the wound management products that are currently being introduced in the market.

According to an update from Supervisor, I am starting my shifts from 1st November 2026, so I was thinking to meet you sometime before that to get an in-depth information about the time management and documention in accordance of our work, perhaps on 27th October 2026 on Monday. I think, our office conference room would be great for this meeting. Please do not hesitate to modify the arrangements according to your convenience.

I am looking forward to meeting you in person.

Thanks and regards,

Anushka Parmar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a suitable, friendly-professional tone. You give relevant background by mentioning your nursing degree, community nursing experience, and wound-management training; you also explain that you hope to learn wound-care skills and about new products. The request for guidance on time management and documentation adds useful specificity. Your proposed date, venue, and willingness to adjust the arrangements make the meeting suggestion practical. To develop the ideas more fully, clarify what kind of support you would value most and make the meeting proposal easier to confirm—for example, ask whether Katelyn is available at a particular time. Overall, the purpose and intended relationship are clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce yourself, outline your background, describe the support you hope to receive, and propose a meeting before closing politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” guide the reader through the letter. The final paragraph also groups the start date, proposed meeting date, and venue logically. Some linking is slightly formulaic, and the opening sentence contains several purposes at once, which makes it less direct. A more natural flow could be achieved by using simpler transitions and separating the reason for writing from the mentorship details. The overall organisation remains easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a relevant range of workplace and nursing vocabulary, including “mentorship,” “wound management,” “career prospects,” and “time management.” These choices communicate your professional context and learning goals clearly. There is also some attempt at more formal phrasing, but several expressions are not natural collocations or are imprecise, such as “provide you some general background of myself,” “adapt some skills,” and “an in-depth information.” “Documention” is also misspelled, and “additional course” needs a more suitable form. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit the naturalness and precision of the vocabulary. Aim for conventional phrases used in professional correspondence and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the time clause “since then I have been working…” and the conditional-style suggestion “Please do not hesitate to modify the arrangements.” Many sentences are clear and correctly formed, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. A few grammatical inaccuracies remain: “I graduated from Bachelor's of Science in Nursing” needs a different construction, while “as Registered Nurse” requires an article. The sentence beginning “According to an update from Supervisor” also needs an article before “supervisor,” and the proposed date sentence would be clearer with more controlled punctuation. These are local errors rather than barriers to understanding. Review articles and sentence construction to make the otherwise varied grammar more consistently accurate.
