Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ashley,
Greetings! I am Suphala Chandorkar (she/her), I have been recently as program coordinator and I am stoked to work along side with you.
I recently graduated from Lakehead University from the Faculty of Education. My master's specialization was Environmental Education; as a part of the programme I opted for a portfolio route in which I emphasized on the importance of developing ecological consciousness through educational practices.
Therefore, I am more than comfortable designing and delivering the community workshops, I would like to understand the objective of our workshops and I would love to get to know the pulse of the audience, i.e., what is their level of awareness, do we focus on creating awareness or offering simple hacks or solutions. I would love to have a in-person conversation, if your schedule permits we can meet tomorrow at 11:00 am in your office or via zoom, either. Let me know if that works. Thanks!
Regards,
Suphala

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the main purposes of the letter: you introduce yourself, describe your master’s studies, explain the kind of guidance you want, and propose a meeting. The detail about your portfolio and ecological consciousness gives useful background, while your questions about workshop objectives and audience awareness make your request for support relevant. However, the task also asks for previous work experience, and “I have been recently as program coordinator” does not clearly explain what work you have done or your responsibilities. Your hoped-for help is also focused mainly on workshop planning, with little about broader career advice or settling into the role. Develop these points more explicitly so each part of the task is covered with comparable clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: introduction, educational background, then the support you seek and a meeting proposal. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Therefore” connect your studies to your confidence in designing workshops. The questions about audience needs also give the final paragraph a clear focus. Some transitions are slightly abrupt, particularly the move from your academic portfolio to your workshop skills, and the long final paragraph combines several requests with the meeting arrangements. A clearer separation between the help you want and the proposed meeting would make the organisation even easier to follow. Overall, the sequence is logical and cohesive, with only minor opportunities to refine flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You use a good range of topic-related vocabulary, including “Environmental Education,” “ecological consciousness,” “educational practices,” and “level of awareness.” These choices communicate your academic background and the kind of workshop guidance you are seeking. There is also some awareness of tone: “I would love to” is warm and appropriate for a friendly professional letter, though “stoked” is quite informal for this context. A few expressions are not fully natural or precise, such as “get to know the pulse of the audience” and “simple hacks,” which may sound vague or overly casual. Choose more conventional professional collocations, such as understanding participants’ needs and offering practical strategies, to make your meaning more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex explanation of your portfolio route and a series of questions about workshop aims. Much of the message remains understandable, and the academic-background sentence is generally well controlled. However, some grammatical errors remain, including the incomplete construction “I have been recently as program coordinator,” which needs a verb such as “appointed” or “working.” There are also article and sentence-boundary issues in “a in-person conversation” and the comma splice in “I am Suphala Chandorkar (she/her), I have…”. The question sequence would be clearer with consistent punctuation and structure. These are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points; proofreading verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
