Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sahil Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to introduce myself and need some suggestions which may help me to imrove my skills.

Addressing the details, My name is Alpeshkumar, and I bring over 3 years of expereince in the field of Physiotherapy Assistant. I completed my BPT in 2022 at the Spine Institute. My responsibilities have included, teaching exercises, giving modalities, and helping a Physiotherapist with charting notes, and so on.

I want to imrove my communication skill. I anticipate that you would help me to improve communication by giving advise on how to interact with patients and collegues at workplace.

I was wondering it might be possible for you to arrange a short meeting. If feasible, I would also appreciate one-on-one discussion to clarify any concerns and my future goals. I am available on weekdays after 2:00 p.m., if that works for you.

Yours sincerely,

Alpeshkumar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points: you outline your BPT studies and three years of physiotherapy-assistant experience, explain that you want support with communication and interacting with patients and colleagues, and suggest a meeting with your weekday availability. These details make the letter relevant and give the mentor a clear introduction to your background and aims. The request for help is particularly clear, though it could be extended with a more specific example of a communication situation you would like advice on. The meeting proposal is polite, but offering a particular day or suggesting a location would make the arrangement more concrete. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some scope to develop the ideas further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: introduction, education and work history, the support you hope to receive, and a proposed meeting. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify each part of the message, and phrases such as “I am writing to introduce myself” and “I was wondering” guide the purpose of the letter. The sequence is logical and easy to follow. Some linking is a little formulaic, particularly “Addressing the details,” and the list of duties in the second paragraph could be integrated more smoothly. The final meeting paragraph also combines the request, discussion purpose, and availability without specifying a proposed time. More natural transitions and a more precise meeting suggestion would make the cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introductory letter, including relevant terms such as “Physiotherapy Assistant,” “modalities,” “charting notes,” and “one-on-one discussion.” The language communicates your experience and goals, although some expressions are imprecise or unnatural: “need some suggestions” is less suitable than asking for guidance, and “giving advise” uses the wrong form of the word. There are also spelling errors in “imrove,” “expereince,” and “collegues,” which reduce accuracy. Repetition of “improve” and “help” limits flexibility. More precise collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the vocabulary while preserving the clear, professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and several sentences are clear and controlled, such as “I completed my BPT in 2022 at the Spine Institute” and “I am available on weekdays after 2:00 p.m.” The conditional phrasing “if that works for you” also suits a polite request. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “My responsibilities have included, teaching exercises,” the comma after “included” is unnecessary; the list would be clearer as “teaching patients exercises, providing modalities, and helping a physiotherapist with charting.” The sentence beginning “I was wondering it might be possible” needs “if” after “wondering.” Capitalisation after “Addressing the details” should also be corrected. These are generally understandable, but more consistent control is needed.
