Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr.Sukhveer,
I hope you are very well. I am writing this letter regarding advice as a new employee at your workplace. I am very excited to learn new guidelines and duties from you.
I want to introduce myself and my past experience. I completed my graduation in art stream. After that, I worked two years as a nurse assistant in my local town in a small hospital.
I am very glad that you are my mentor because I hope that you will give me appropriate advice regarding this job. In addition to it, I will develop other important skills which are very crucial for looking after and talking with patients.
Thank you for your time and consideration in reading my application. I hope we will meet very soon. Please fix any day of the week to arrange our meeting.
Yours sincerely
Rajveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover the three requested points: you mention your art studies and two years as a nurse assistant, explain that you want advice and to develop patient-care skills, and ask to arrange a meeting. However, the meeting suggestion is vague (“Please fix any day of the week”), and the help you hope to receive could be more specific—for example, guidance on workplace procedures or communicating with patients. The letter is also six words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more development. The opening and closing are appropriate, but “at your workplace” is unclear because the mentor is your colleague. Add a specific meeting time or place and expand on your experience and goals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible order: introduction, background, expectations of the mentor, and a meeting request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “After that” and “In addition to it” show how ideas relate. The overall progression is clear, though some connections feel mechanical, and the final meeting request is not developed into a practical arrangement. The opening sentence also repeats the purpose of writing before the next paragraph introduces you. To strengthen cohesion, make the purpose more direct, connect your previous nursing experience to the skills you want to build, and suggest a particular day, time, or location while inviting the mentor to propose an alternative.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal introductory letter, and phrases such as “work experience,” “appropriate advice,” and “important skills” communicate your meaning. You also use relevant terms connected with your background, including “nurse assistant” and “patients.” However, some expressions are vague or unnatural, which limits precision: “new guidelines and duties” does not clearly explain what you want to learn, and “fix any day” is not an idiomatic way to arrange a meeting. “Graduation in art stream” is also an awkward description of your studies. Choose more natural collocations and specific workplace vocabulary so your requests sound clear and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including “I am very glad that you are my mentor because I hope that you will give me…” The main ideas remain understandable, and several sentences are grammatically controlled. Some errors in sentence construction and punctuation remain: “Dear Mr.Sukhveer” needs a space after the title and a comma, while “I completed my graduation in art stream” is missing an article before “art stream.” The phrase “I will develop other important skills which are very crucial” also has an unclear reference, since it is not clear whether “which” refers to the skills or something else. Aim for more varied sentence patterns while checking articles, punctuation, and clear pronoun references.
