As I recently got to know that in this company every employee has their mentor to get support in their career, I am also keen in getting your advice for my career growth. You have been working with this prestigious company since ten years and I have heard about your journey from being a sales agent to director of the company. It would be truly inspiring for me to have an opportunity to work with you.
I wanted to know more about your journey and learn the skills required to be other top of the charts. It would be a pleasure for me if you could give me some of your time tomorrow and we could meet in the board room for some quick discussions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you outline your education and previous role, explain that you want to progress from sales agent to team leader, and propose meeting tomorrow in the board room. The reference to your mentor’s career also gives a relevant reason for seeking their guidance. This meets the core task well, but some points are less fully developed: your studies and work history are brief, and the help you want could be more specific, such as advice on leadership, sales targets, or managing a team. The meeting suggestion is clear but would be more considerate if you asked whether tomorrow suits the mentor and offered an alternative time. These additions would make the letter more complete and purposeful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph about your career aims, and a closing paragraph proposing a meeting. The progression from introducing yourself to explaining your goals is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For your information” and “I wanted to know more about your journey” help connect ideas. However, some links feel repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated references to career growth and guidance. The opening also combines several points in one long sequence, so the reader has to work through your employment context and background together. Separate these details more deliberately, and use clearer transitions between your experience, the specific support you seek, and the meeting arrangements. A more conventional closing would also strengthen the letter’s overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional letter, including “career advancement,” “inspiring,” and “journey,” which communicate your aims and respect for the mentor. You also attempt more ambitious expressions such as “top of the charts,” but this is not a natural way to describe career progression in this context. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “keen in getting your advice,” “got your reference,” and “quick discussions.” There is also a spelling error in “greatful.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit the naturalness and precision of the letter. Prefer standard workplace expressions such as “keen to receive your advice,” “was given your details,” and “a brief discussion,” and check spelling before sending.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the subordinate clause in “As I recently got to know…” and the conditional structure “if you could give me some of your time.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. For example, “For you information” needs the possessive form “your,” while “I am seeking some help to grow from the job…” has an unclear grammatical construction. The phrase “to be other top of the charts” also has a faulty structure. In addition, the long opening sentence would be easier to control if divided into shorter sentences. Review possessives, infinitive patterns, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
