Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Mr. Sheladiya,

I am writing to introduce myself and express my pleasure at having you as my mentor. My make is Miral Khunt, and I have recently joined this rehabilitation center as a junior physiotherapist.

I graduated from the University of Toronto two years ago with a degree in bachelor of physiotherapy. During my studies, I have broaden my knowldege of a wide range of physiotherapy conditions. After graduating, I worked for a heathcare company as a assistant physiotherapist, where I developed my practical skills.

As I am at the beginning of my career,I hope you can provide me with advice on how to take patients' history and assess their physical conditions effectively. I would particularly appreciate your guidance on managing emergency situations and communicating effectively.

Regarding our first meeting, I would be happy to meet at your convenience next week. Perhaps we could meet for a coffee in the staff cafeteria on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. This would give us opportunity to get to know each other.

Thank your for taking the time to support me. I look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Miral Khunt

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requested points and maintain an appropriate, friendly-professional tone. Your studies and work history are clearly outlined, including your physiotherapy degree and assistant role, while the requests for help are specific to your new position: taking patient histories, assessing conditions, handling emergencies, and communicating effectively. The meeting proposal is also practical, with Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon offered as options. These details make the letter purposeful and relevant. To develop the ideas further, you could briefly explain why particular guidance matters to you or suggest a specific time and confirm whether either option suits your mentor. This would make the arrangements and your expectations more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0

The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, background, mentoring needs, meeting arrangements, and closing. Each paragraph has a distinct purpose, and transitions such as “After graduating,” “As I am at the beginning of my career,” and “Regarding our first meeting” help the reader follow the progression. The closing is also appropriate for a professional letter. Cohesion is generally well managed and does not rely excessively on linking words. For an even more polished flow, connect a few related details more smoothly—for example, link your previous assistant role to the specific skills you now want to develop. Also ensure punctuation spacing is consistent, as in “career,I,” so the presentation remains as controlled as the organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a relevant range of workplace and healthcare vocabulary, including “junior physiotherapist,” “practical skills,” “assess their physical conditions,” and “managing emergency situations.” These choices communicate your background and mentoring goals clearly, and the tone is suitably professional. The range is adequate, but some spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “My make” appears to mean “My name,” “heathcare” is misspelled, and “a assistant physiotherapist” uses an incorrect article form. “A wide range of physiotherapy conditions” is also an imprecise collocation; you could refer to “a wide range of conditions treated in physiotherapy.” More accurate spelling and more natural collocations would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a useful mix of simple and complex structures, including the time clause “After graduating, I worked…” and the conditional-style request “I hope you can provide me with advice…”. Many sentences are clear and correctly formed, and the reader can understand your meaning throughout. A few grammatical errors remain. In “I have broaden my knowledge,” the present perfect requires “broadened”; “a degree in bachelor of physiotherapy” needs a more accurate article and degree construction; and “a assistant physiotherapist” should be “an assistant physiotherapist.” The sentence “This would give us opportunity” also needs an article before “opportunity.” Check punctuation spacing after commas as well. Correcting these recurring details would strengthen accuracy while preserving your varied sentence structures.
