Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Osama,
I hope you are doing well. I have recently joined Amazing LLC ,as Manager Financial Planning & Analysis. During my induction process, your details were shared with me and I have been assigned as your mentee.
As part of my introduction, my name is Hayyan Tahir and an ACCA by profession. I have over a decade of experience, spanning from a Big 4 audit firm to, recently, leading the accouting function of a listed pharmaceutical company.
I will be joining the office from the 1st week of November. During my initial days, I will be needing your immense support and guidance. In this regard, I was hoping if we can arrange a brief intoductory meeting with the whole team in the office as this will help me to get-to-know everybody. Also, if you will be able to guide me in securing access to main equipment like printers, scanners and meeting rooms. And not to forget, the coffee machine in the office!
All of these and other points we can discuss in detail in our first meeting. If your schedule permits, appreciate if we can schedule our meeting on my first day before I get a chance to meet the whole team. I prefer to have this meeting, early in the morning, face-to-face in any of the meeting room at the office for an hour to avoid any disturbance to the operations and teams.
Please let me know your thoughts on the meeting proposal. Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Thanks,
Hayyan Tahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you outline your ACCA qualification and experience in audit and accounting, explain that you want support with settling in and meeting the team, and propose a first-day meeting. The purpose and relationship are clear, and the practical suggestions make the letter relevant. However, the studies and work-history outline is quite compressed, while the help requested focuses heavily on office access and equipment; developing the career-related guidance you hope to receive would make the content more balanced. The meeting proposal is specific, but asking whether the suggested time suits Osama would make the arrangement more collaborative. Overall, the task is covered, though some points are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from introduction and background to support needs, meeting arrangements, and a closing request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “In this regard” and “All of these and other points” connect ideas across the letter. The sequence of practical requests is understandable, although the equipment and coffee-machine details briefly distract from the central aim of discussing mentoring. Some linking is also slightly formulaic, particularly the repeated use of “meeting” in the final paragraph. To strengthen the flow further, group the support requests by purpose and use a more concise transition into the proposed appointment.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You use a suitable range of workplace vocabulary, including “induction process,” “mentee,” “guidance,” “listed pharmaceutical company,” and “operations.” These choices communicate your professional background and needs clearly, with some awareness of formal letter style. A few expressions are less natural or precise: “an ACCA by profession” is awkward, and “immense support” sounds overstated for an introductory request. There are also spelling errors in “accouting” and “intoductory,” which count against accurate control of vocabulary. Aim for natural collocations and proofread carefully; for example, describe your qualification directly and request “support as I settle into the role” rather than using an exaggerated adjective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the conditional “If your schedule permits” and the purpose clause “as this will help me to get-to-know everybody.” Many sentences are clear and correctly formed, and the reader can follow the proposed arrangements without difficulty. Some grammatical issues remain. “My name is Hayyan Tahir and an ACCA by profession” is missing a verb in the second clause; “I was hoping if we can arrange” combines structures awkwardly; and “appreciate if we can schedule” lacks a subject. There are also article and preposition problems in “in any of the meeting room.” Revising these patterns would improve accuracy while preserving your varied sentence forms.
