Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Suman,
I am very grateful to you for becoming my mentor. I will appreciate your suggestions and support to make a stable and successful career. I am very excited about my new role as a Personal Support Worker. I have completed two years of Mental Health and Addictions worker diploma from a designated college. I aslo got hands on experince from my role as a community worker in a care home during my six month of placement. Additionally, I also did volunteer work of eight months in a trauma centre.
I would like to work with senior citizens to provide them with the love and care they deserved . Therefore, I am very interested in the healthcare services and started my role as a Personal Support Woker. I would like you to provide me with the training to handle emergency situations and to do proper documentation. As we all know every care home has different procedures and work envioronments , I need your support to get familirise my myself with those.
I would like to meet you in person to have a open communication about my expectations and get a proper understanding of my role. I am available on all days of the week except saturday as I work as a babysitter for my cousin. Please let about your availability , so we can arrange one day for our meeting.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose throughout. Your studies and experience are outlined with useful specifics, including the diploma, care-home placement, and volunteer work. You also identify practical areas where you want support—emergency procedures, documentation, and learning the care home’s practices—and propose meeting in person while explaining your availability. These details make the letter relevant and give the mentor a clear sense of your needs. To strengthen the response further, develop the meeting proposal more directly by suggesting a particular day or time, rather than asking the mentor to provide availability, and explain briefly how the requested guidance would help you settle into the role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your background, explain your interests and support needs, then move to arranging a meeting and closing politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Therefore,” and “As we all know” make relationships between ideas visible. The sequence is easy to follow overall. At times, however, connections feel slightly mechanical or repetitive: “I would like” appears several times, and the transition from your interest in senior care to the specific training you need could be smoother. You could group related points more tightly and vary the linking language so the organisation remains clear without drawing attention to the transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the workplace and care setting, including “Personal Support Worker,” “emergency situations,” “proper documentation,” and “care home.” This gives the letter an appropriate professional focus and communicates your needs clearly. However, spelling errors and some imprecise or unnatural combinations limit the range and control: “experince,” “envioronments,” and “familirise” are noticeable, while “provide me with the training” and “volunteer work of eight months” could be expressed more naturally. There is also repetition of “support” and “I would like.” Proofread carefully and build a wider set of natural professional phrases, such as “guidance on” and “become familiar with,” to improve precision and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “Therefore, I am very interested…” and the conditional-style explanation of your availability. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “I aslo got hands on experince from my role” needs a more complete and correctly formed construction, and “the love and care they deserved” should use a present-tense verb to match the general meaning. Articles and sentence patterns also need attention in “to have a open communication” and “Please let about your availability.” Review article use, verb tense consistency, and sentence completeness. More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter sound more polished while preserving its clear message.
