Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you outline your civil-engineering studies and part-time drafting work, identify support you want with software and professional skills, and suggest weekend availability for a first meeting. The purpose and relationship are clear, and the details are relevant. The study and work background is specific, while the help you seek is less fully explained: for example, you could name the design software or describe the kind of leadership guidance you hope to receive. The meeting proposal is also somewhat broad; offering a particular day or time would make it easier for Sam to respond. These details show clear coverage of the task, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, background, requested guidance, and meeting arrangements. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposting such as “First” and “Secondly” helps the reader follow the two areas where you want support. The final paragraph also makes a clear request for Sam’s availability. To make the flow more natural, connect the meeting proposal more directly to a specific option, rather than moving from general weekend availability to a separate restriction on Sunday evening. The opening calls the message an “email,” although the task asks for a letter; keeping the format consistent would improve the overall presentation. Overall, the organisation is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for your background and goals, including “Civil Engineering,” “Civil drafter,” “leadership,” and “communication skills.” These choices make your meaning clear, and phrases such as “part time” and “career” suit the context. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “intruduce,” “recivied,” “distiction,” and “avaibilty,” and some expressions are not idiomatic, such as “two main doubt” and “become pro.” These inaccuracies limit the precision and naturalness of the vocabulary, even though the reader can generally understand your message. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose conventional professional phrases, such as “areas where I would appreciate guidance” and “develop expertise.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. For example, “While I was studying, I was working…” combines a time clause with a main clause, while “which can help me in the future” adds a relative clause. Some grammatical errors remain. In “which softwear should I learn,” the indirect question should use statement word order: “which software I should learn.” “I have two main doubt” also needs plural agreement (“doubts”), and “I will be available for our first meeting on upcoming weekends” needs a more natural article or determiner, such as “on the upcoming weekends.” Reviewing indirect questions, agreement, and articles would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
