Dear....... ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Greenwood,
My name is Harman Kahlon and I have recently joined the company on 3rd October. I am writing this letter to formally introduce myself and what guidance I hope to receive.
I am a determined and discipined worker and when a task assigned to me, I put my efforts wholeheartedly. My educational background is in Management and business. I have a undergraduate degree in Business in Computer Applications and followed by a post graduate degree in Digital Marketing. After completing my studies, I worked as a part-time intern in Jio Intel. customer office then moving to a higher department as a Social media creator head within the company.
I am looking forward to working with you as I have heard a lot about your work ethics and experience. I am a little afraid of starting as a new and that is something I am worried out. I hope your guidance will teach me to complete my tasks with full dedication and focus.
I am thinking to plan a short meet at the cafe downstairs in our office buiding on 5th October at 11:00 in the morning.
I hope you will get time for this quick meet up before I start my work.
Yours sincerely,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you outline your education and employment, explain that you want support as a newcomer, and propose a specific time and place for a meeting. The details about your business and digital-marketing studies and your progression at Jio Intel make the introduction relevant. However, the help you hope to receive is described rather generally: “teach me to complete my tasks with full dedication and focus” does not identify particular areas where your mentor’s advice would be useful. The meeting suggestion is clear, but you could make it more considerate by asking whether the proposed time suits Mr. Greenwood and offering an alternative. These uneven levels of detail keep the response from fully developing every part.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: introduction, background, expectations, and meeting arrangements. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “After completing my studies” and “I am looking forward to working with you” connect ideas appropriately. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some links between details could be smoother. For example, the sentence about your internship and move to a higher department is crowded, making the career progression harder to follow. The final two sentences repeat the meeting idea rather than adding a new detail. To strengthen the flow, separate the work-history information into clearer steps and use the closing to invite a reply or confirm the proposed arrangement.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a professional introductory letter, including “educational background,” “post graduate degree,” “guidance,” and “work ethics.” These choices communicate your meaning, and the tone is mostly appropriate. There are, however, some inaccurate or awkward word choices and collocations, such as “a little afraid of starting as a new,” “worried out,” and “plan a short meet.” Spelling errors in “discipined” and “buiding” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions, including “full dedication and focus,” are broad rather than precise. Aim for natural workplace phrases and more specific vocabulary—for example, describe the skills or responsibilities for which you would value advice. Proofreading would also help catch spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. For instance, the opening explains your purpose, while “After completing my studies” introduces a time relationship. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. Examples include “I have a undergraduate degree,” “when a task assigned to me,” and “I am thinking to plan.” The long sentence beginning “After completing my studies” also lacks a clear grammatical structure around the move from intern to department head. Work on complete clauses, article use, and verb patterns such as “I am thinking of arranging.” More consistent control of these forms would make the letter sound clearer and more polished.
