Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sakshi,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you some details about my past work experience and studies. I completed my studies in Bachelors of Pharmacy from Parul Univeristy back home. After that, I came here and started working for a retail pharmacy as a pharmacy volunteer. There I used to shadow the assistants and help them with some daily tasks such as filling easy prescriptions.
Recently, I have started a new role as Pharmacy assistant at Walmart Pharmacy. Although, I have some basic details of work to do, but I know there would be more to learn. It would be a great help, if you become my mentor and help me in growing up in this field. I came to know that you are working here from last 10 years and have come across many difficult patient as well. I would like to learn such skills from you such as handling the trouble patient.
I would suggest if we can arrange one on one meeting on zoom or in person. It would be a great opportunity to know each other and discuss our plans.
Thank you so much for taking time and I would be waiting for your response.
See you soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements clearly: you outline your pharmacy degree and volunteer experience, explain that you want support developing in the role and handling difficult patients, and propose meeting online or in person. The details about shadowing assistants and filling prescriptions make your background relevant, while your reference to the mentor’s ten years of experience gives a reason for seeking their guidance. The request for help with patient interactions is useful, though it could be developed further by naming another specific area, such as learning workplace procedures or communicating with customers. Overall, the letter’s purpose is clear and the requested information is covered.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: introduction and background, the support you hope to receive, and a proposed meeting, followed by a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “After that,” “Recently,” and “Although” guide the sequence. The meeting suggestion is understandable, but it would be more effective to offer a specific day or time and ask which option suits Sakshi. Some links between ideas are slightly awkward—for example, the sentence beginning “Although” combines your current knowledge with the need to learn more in a way that interrupts the flow. Overall, the organisation is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the workplace context, including “shadow the assistants,” “daily tasks,” “mentor,” and “handling” patients. These choices communicate your experience and goals, and the meaning remains clear. However, some phrases are imprecise or do not collocate naturally, such as “growing up in this field,” “difficult patient,” and “trouble patient.” “Univeristy” is also misspelled, and “one on one meeting” would be clearer with standard hyphenation. Aim for more precise professional expressions and check spelling and word forms; this would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “an experienced colleague” is not present, but you do use a subordinate clause in “Although, I have some basic details…” and a time sequence with “After that.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your message. Some grammatical problems remain: “I completed my studies in Bachelors” needs a more accurate construction, “Although” should not be followed by “but” in the same clause, and “from last 10 years” needs a different tense and preposition. There are also agreement and article issues in “many difficult patient.” Review clause structure, tense, and singular/plural agreement to improve accuracy.
