Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Tinkal Patel, an assistant physiotherapist at OSPC clinic. I recently joined the clinic. I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you.

Firstly, I have completed physiotherapy from V.N.S.G.U university. I did my 6 months internship from M.G Gohil multispecialist hospital Surat. After that, I worked as assistant physiotherapist at Spine Rehab centre for 2 years. Recently, I got a job here at OSPC clinic. In addition, the receptionist told me that you are my mentor for the upcoming months.

Lastly, I am hoping that, you provide me with the brief of the work environment. Furthermore, I would like you to help me with the data registration, patient assessment and how to make a good treatment plan. I would like to arrange a meeting with you at Atrium Cafe. I would like to know the preferable date and time for our meeting from your side.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely,

Tinkal Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points: you outline your physiotherapy education, internship and two years of work, identify the support you want, and propose meeting at Atrium Cafe. The requests for help with patient assessment and treatment planning are relevant and specific, so the purpose of the letter is clear. Your background is also presented in a sensible sequence. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly what you hope to learn from the mentor’s guidance—for example, how it would help you settle into the clinic or improve your practice. The opening “Dear Sir/Madam” is also less personal than expected when writing to an assigned mentor; using their name, if known, would make the introduction more appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph about your background, a paragraph covering support and a meeting, and a polite closing. The sequence of your studies and employment is easy to follow, and phrases such as “After that” help show chronology. However, the repeated signposts “Firstly” and “Lastly” make the progression somewhat mechanical, and “Lastly” does not quite fit because the paragraph contains two separate purposes. The transition “In addition” also joins your work history to the mentor information rather abruptly. Grouping the requests and meeting proposal more distinctly, and using more natural links between ideas, would make the cohesion smoother and more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including relevant professional terms such as “physiotherapist,” “patient assessment” and “treatment plan.” These details make your requests understandable and specific. There are, however, some imprecise or unnatural choices: “completed physiotherapy” does not clearly express that you completed a course or degree, and “the brief of the work environment” is not a natural way to describe the information you want. “Positive response” is also rather formal and generic for arranging a meeting with a mentor. Aim for more natural collocations and a warm, professional tone. The meaning remains clear, but more precise phrasing would improve the flexibility and control of your vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message is readily understandable. For example, “I would like to know the preferable date and time for our meeting from your side” communicates the request, while the sequence of past-tense sentences describes your experience clearly. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I am hoping that, you provide me,” the comma is misplaced and the verb form should be adjusted; “I have completed physiotherapy from…” also uses an awkward grammatical pattern for describing a qualification. There are inconsistent spaces and punctuation around phrases such as “6 months” and “brief of the work environment.” Review clause punctuation, verb forms after “hope,” and sentence patterns for qualifications to improve accuracy.
