Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear ........,
I'm writing to introduced myself as a new employee of the company and how pleased I am to have been assigned you my mentor.
By way of background I recently completed my Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering. Major subject of my engineering was Electrical Power. Previously, I worked in Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, the Pakistan's largest fartilizer sector as an electrical maintenance engineer. I led the team to carry out the plant maintenance activities, enhancing my skills and expertise. Moreover, during that period I gained the practical experience in project management and vendor relationship.
As I transition into the company, I'm eager to learn extensive experience from you. In particular, I hope you can provide guidance on understanding interal team dynamics and navigating the specific workflow of our department. I would also greatly appreciate your insights on lon term career developing.
I would like to suggest that we meet for initial introduction sometimes next week. I'm flexible and will be available. I would look forward to meeting you.
Yours Sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you outline your electrical engineering degree and maintenance-engineer experience, explain that you want help with team dynamics, departmental workflows and career development, and propose meeting next week. These details make the letter relevant and give the mentor a clear sense of your background and aims. The work experience is usefully extended with examples of leading maintenance activities and gaining project-management experience. To make the response more fully developed, specify what kind of career guidance you seek and suggest a practical meeting time or format rather than saying only that you are flexible. A brief, direct introduction and a more complete closing would also make the letter feel more finished.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter has a clear progression: introduction, background, the support you hope to receive, and a proposed meeting. Paragraphing separates these functions effectively, while phrases such as “By way of background,” “Moreover,” and “In particular” help guide the reader through the information. The sequence is easy to follow and the tone remains consistent. Some links could be more natural and precise: “As I transition into the company” is a broad transition into the request, and the final meeting proposal could connect more smoothly to your stated flexibility by offering a specific option. The closing is also abrupt after “I would look forward to meeting you”; a conventional sign-off with your name would complete the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of workplace and engineering vocabulary, including “electrical maintenance engineer,” “plant maintenance activities,” “project management,” and “team dynamics.” These choices communicate your experience and goals clearly, and some less common expressions show an effort to be precise. However, several spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce accuracy: “fartilizer,” “interal,” and “lon term” should be corrected, while “learn extensive experience from you” is not a natural combination. “Career developing” is also less idiomatic than “career development.” Proofread carefully and favour natural professional phrases, such as “benefit from your extensive experience” and “gain insights into long-term career development.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. For example, the sentence beginning “In particular, I hope you can provide guidance…” combines a clear main clause with two related areas of support. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “I'm writing to introduced myself” needs the infinitive “introduce,” and “assigned you my mentor” requires a preposition and article: “assigned you as my mentor” or “assigned me a mentor.” The opening sentence also joins two ideas awkwardly after “and.” Review articles and possessives in “a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering” and “the Pakistan's largest…” and use a complete, natural sentence structure when proposing the meeting. These corrections would improve control while preserving your range.
