Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rahul,
I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you as you are my mentor and will guide me throughout in this new office.
I recently got your details from my supervisor, Jacob and looking forward to meet you. I, Manpreet, did Bachelors in Biotechnology from Thapar University and has 4 years of experience in Quality Technician role at a Chemical Lab. Moreover, I am familiar with number of Quality check reports required by any company to sustain the quality of the products they make has hands-on experience with some softwares too like LIMS, Hold and release, Capa etc.
As this place is new to me,I need your support and help. As I mentioned above, I can use numerous softwares to enter daily checks data but this company have different softwares which I had never used before.Hence, It would be great if could help me go through them and provide me proper training to use them.
Further,I am available this Thursday evening as it is a day-off for me. I will appreciate if you could lend me some time to give training. I can come and visit you any time of the day whenever it is possible for you. If this doesnot work for you, please let me know another possible time to visit.
Thank you in advance and I am looking forward to meet you.
Yours sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you outline your biotechnology degree and four years in a quality technician role, explain that you need help learning the company’s software, and propose Thursday evening for a first meeting. The purpose and relationship are clear, and the specific background details make the introduction relevant. Your request for support is also explained rather than merely listed. To make the response more fully developed, clarify what you hope to learn beyond software training—for example, workplace procedures or career guidance—and make the meeting proposal more definite by suggesting a duration or asking whether a particular time suits Rahul. Overall, the task is covered clearly, though some details could be extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear sequence: introduction, education and experience, the support you need, and arrangements for meeting. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Hence,” and “Further” show how the ideas relate. The closing also returns naturally to the meeting and thanks the mentor. At times, however, the connections are less smooth because several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “I, Manpreet, did Bachelors…” and the explanation of your software experience. Some transitions, including “Further,” feel slightly mechanical. Separate related details into clearer sentences and use references such as “these systems” to avoid repetition and improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introduction, including relevant terms such as “Quality Technician,” “Quality check reports,” “hands-on experience,” and “training.” These details communicate your background and the help you need. There are also attempts at more specialised language, although some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “throughout in this new office,” “lend me some time to give training,” and “number of Quality check reports required by any company to sustain the quality” do not express the intended ideas smoothly. Choose more natural collocations and keep technical terms consistent in capitalisation. For instance, you could describe your experience as preparing quality-control reports and ask for guidance in using the company’s systems.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “as” and “if,” and the overall message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “looking forward to meet you” needs a gerund, while “I … did Bachelors … and has 4 years” shifts awkwardly between subjects and has incorrect agreement. The sentence beginning “Moreover, I am familiar…” also lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. There are punctuation and spacing issues after commas and full stops. Use complete, shorter sentences, check that each verb agrees with its subject, and use forms such as “I have a bachelor’s degree” and “I look forward to meeting you.”
