Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Michael,

I am writing to introduce myself being a new employee in this prestigious organisation. It is a very good opportunity to discuss my career pathways and get your valuable advice.

I am from Punjab,India and most interestingly, I have completed high school education with a passing grade of 93%. In 2023 moved to Canada and completed Bachelors in International Business administration with 3.6 GPA from Conestoga College. Before this job, I worked as a full time employee in Hinduja Global Solutions as custormer relations associate.

I would really appreciate if you can assist me with more job options or other courses/certifications related to my field. Although, I am getting valuable experience, it is not what I am looking for. My ambition is to pursue further studies and get settled in big-scale companies such as Google, CNBC or in baking sector. It would be very kind of you if you can list me your available slots so, I can book one thats suits our availability.

Thank you for your considerartion. I will look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

Ravleen.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you outline your education and previous role, explain that you want guidance on career options and further study, and ask Michael to share times for a meeting. The details about your degree, GPA, and customer-relations work make the introduction relevant. However, the help you want is not fully clear: “more job options or other courses/certifications” is broad, and the reference to “baking sector” seems inconsistent with your stated business background and ambitions, so the mentor may not know what direction you mean. Develop this request by identifying specific skills or career decisions you want advice on, and clarify your long-term goal. The letter is appropriate overall, but some ideas need fuller explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening introduction, a paragraph about your background, and a final paragraph covering the support you seek and a meeting. This makes the main information easy to locate, and the closing is suitable for a professional letter. Connections such as “Before this job” and “Although I am getting valuable experience” help link ideas. At times, however, several purposes are crowded into the final paragraph, and the transition from wanting further study to naming Google, CNBC, and the baking sector is abrupt. Separate the mentoring request from your meeting arrangements, and use a clearer link to explain how your career goals relate to the advice you need. This would make the progression more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a professional introduction, including “career pathways,” “valuable advice,” “customer relations associate,” and “further studies.” These choices communicate your background and aims, and the tone is generally polite. However, some wording is inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “prestigious organisation” sounds overly promotional, “more job options” is vague, and “list me your available slots” is not a natural collocation. There are also spelling errors in “custormer” and “considerartion,” and “baking sector” may not express the intended industry. Choose precise, conventional workplace expressions and proofread spelling; this will make your message sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Although I am getting valuable experience, it is not what I am looking for,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. In “I am writing to introduce myself being a new employee,” the structure should be “as a new employee.” The sentence beginning “In 2023 moved to Canada” is missing its subject, and “I would really appreciate if” needs “it” after “appreciate.” There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, such as the comma after “slots” and the run-on phrasing around “so, I can book.” Review complete clauses, articles, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
