Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you. My name is Nikhil. I got hired recently as a marketing executive. I have completed 3 years BSc. economics honours from Kurukshetra University. Moreover, I have persuaded two year post graduate certificate from Mohawk College. I worked for two years at Loblaws as a Marketing Assistant, where I gained deep knowledge about the business and marketing. Although that way my first job, I also completed four months internship in the same field at LCBO.
Despite newly employed, I am not aware about the policies and procedures; therefore I would request you to assist me with thorough knowledge of such regulations and guide for complicated tasks. Having a good education and experience in the industry makes me feel comfortable at the work. However, there might be some challenges I may face. Consequently, I might need your assistance to tackle them.
Finally, it would be appreciated if you arranged a meeting. I am available 9 am to 9pm in working days. I am passionate to hear back from you.
Yours sincerely,
Nikhil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you outline your economics studies and marketing experience, explain that you want guidance on workplace procedures and difficult tasks, and ask to arrange a meeting. The background is relevant and specific, including your roles at Loblaws and LCBO. However, the help you hope to receive is partly general: “thorough knowledge of such regulations” and assistance with “complicated tasks” could be made more concrete by naming a skill or area, such as campaign planning or understanding internal systems. The meeting proposal is also incomplete because you give a very broad availability window without suggesting a particular day, time, or format. Developing these details would make the letter more fully purposeful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: introduction and experience, the support you seek, then a meeting request and sign-off. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “Although,” and “Finally” show how ideas relate. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some linking is mechanical or not quite logical, however. “Despite newly employed” does not clearly connect to the request for help, while “Consequently” repeats the idea that you may need assistance rather than advancing it. The final paragraph would also flow better if the proposed meeting details followed directly from your availability. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each connection between ideas explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional introduction, including “marketing executive,” “internship,” “policies and procedures,” and “assistance.” These choices communicate your background and needs clearly, and you attempt some more formal expressions. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices: “persuaded” does not mean completed a qualification, “deep knowledge” is an awkward description of what you gained, and “hear back” is less suitable in this formal closing. “Thorough knowledge of such regulations” is also vague and slightly unnatural in context. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than adding formality for its own sake; this will make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the longer sentence beginning “Although…” and the sentence linking your request to your lack of familiarity with workplace procedures. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions are present. For example, “I have completed 3 years BSc. economics honours” needs clearer article and qualification structure, and “Although that way my first job” is missing a verb and has an unclear clause. “I am available 9 am to 9pm in working days” also needs prepositions and more accurate phrasing. Review sentence completeness, articles, and prepositions, and read each sentence aloud to check that its grammatical relationships are clear.
