Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that, as a new employee at this company, I have been given the necessary details regarding my studies and experience to help you provide me with the right guidance.
Firstly, I completed my graduation in digital marketing with placements, where I learnt about market operations, how to check customer needs and wants, and important steps that help us to encourage customers to buy our product. However, this course also taught me the importance of advertising because, due to the increase in competition, it is essential that customers know the benefits of our product, which indicates that our product is better than the competitors'.
Moreover, I am an introverted person; I face difficulties when I talk with customers because I think it is very hard for me to solve problems, especially when customers are not happy with the services. Furthermore, I will really appreciate it if you could help me to solve this problem and provide me some necessary tips that help me to provide an excellent customer services.
Finally, I think it is a great idea if we organise a meeting so that I can easily express what I actually feel, and you can provide me with suggestions that help me to improve my performance. Actually, I am free on Saturday, if you feel comfortable, we can meet at Cafe that is near our office.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sargun

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you outline your digital-marketing studies, explain that you want support with customer conversations and complaints, and propose meeting on Saturday at a nearby café. The request for help is relevant and gives your mentor a clear sense of your needs. The study and work background, however, is not fully clear: you mention completing a course “with placements” but do not explain what work experience those placements involved. The opening also says you are writing to share details “to help you provide me with the right guidance,” rather than introducing yourself directly. To strengthen the letter, briefly describe a specific placement or previous role and make your purpose more direct. The main ideas are present, but some are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your background, the support you need, and the proposed meeting. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the progression, and the closing is appropriate. However, these transitions can feel mechanical, and some ideas within paragraphs are joined in long sentences, particularly the explanation of advertising and competition. The link between your studies and your current work experience could also be clearer. The meeting suggestion is understandable, but giving a specific time or asking which day suits your mentor would make the final paragraph more complete. Use transitions more selectively and make the relationship between ideas explicit to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “digital marketing,” “customer needs,” “competition,” “guidance,” and “improve my performance.” This is enough to communicate your background and the help you want. However, several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “necessary details regarding my studies and experience,” “encourage customers to buy our product,” and “excellent customer services.” Some wording is also repetitive, especially repeated references to “help,” “provide,” and “customers.” Aim for more natural workplace collocations and more precise terms for your experience and development goals. For example, describe the skills you want to build as “handling customer complaints” rather than referring generally to solving the problem.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “where,” and “if,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “I will really appreciate it” needs the conditional form “would really appreciate it,” and “an excellent customer services” has an article and number problem. In “I am free on Saturday, if you feel comfortable, we can meet,” the clauses need clearer punctuation, such as a full stop or semicolon after “Saturday.” There are also some awkward sentence patterns that make ideas harder to follow. Review articles, singular and plural forms, and punctuation when joining independent clauses.
