Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I, Dhaval Thummar, recently joined in your company and have been provided you as a mentor. I did my graduation in Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, followed by working in a glass manufacturing company named Dutch Glass as a Quality Control Specialist for 2 years.
Having been assured that a mentor provides valuable guidance and support in future career prospects, I genuinely wish that you help me with prompt knowledge of company and your suggestions in outlining my role would work great for me.
As I was wondering about our first meeting, I will prepare some notes and make necessary arrangements. I would suggest if we can meet at a cafe situated near to a workplace, it provides very quite atmosphere as it is not a very busy place.
Please let me know if anything has to be done before meeting. I hope yo hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Dhaval Thummar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you outline your engineering degree and two years as a Quality Control Specialist, explain that you want guidance about the company and your role, and propose meeting at a nearby café. These details make the letter relevant and show the main purpose clearly. The study and work background is specific, and the request for support is appropriate, but the help you hope to receive is only briefly explained. For example, you could identify particular areas where you need advice, such as workplace procedures or career development. The meeting suggestion would also be more complete if you proposed a day or time and asked whether it suits your mentor. This would develop the ideas more fully while retaining the clear coverage already present.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear sequence: introduction and background, the support you hope to receive, arrangements for a meeting, and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “followed by” and “As I was wondering about our first meeting” guide the reader through the message. The overall progression is easy to follow. Some connections are less natural, however: “Having been assured that a mentor provides…” leads into a request in a slightly awkward way, and the meeting paragraph combines preparation, the venue, and its atmosphere without a clear proposed time. Use more direct transitions and organise the meeting details around a specific suggestion, followed by a question inviting your mentor’s response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of workplace and career vocabulary, including “Quality Control Specialist,” “valuable guidance,” “career prospects,” and “necessary arrangements.” These choices communicate the purpose and context effectively, and the professional tone is generally appropriate. Some phrases show an attempt at more formal or less common language but are not natural collocations: “prompt knowledge of company” and “your suggestions in outlining my role” are unclear or awkward. “Very quite atmosphere” also contains an inaccurate word choice, while “joined in your company” is not idiomatic. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding formality; for example, ask for an introduction to company procedures and guidance on your responsibilities. Proofread spelling as well, including “yo,” to maintain a polished impression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the participial opening “Having been assured…” and the conditional “I would suggest if we can meet…”. Most of the message remains understandable, and the sentences generally convey the intended information. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “I recently joined in your company” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “I hope yo hear” contains a missing letter that affects the sentence’s accuracy. In “I would suggest if we can meet,” the clause structure is incomplete; use “I would suggest that we meet” or “Would it be possible for us to meet?” Check articles and prepositions in phrases such as “knowledge of company” and “near to a workplace,” and use a consistent, natural tense when proposing arrangements.
