Student answer (Band 7.0)

Healthcare professionals advise people to follow a healthy diet to maintain their overall well-being. However, some people continue to spend a considerable amount of money on vitamin supplements. This trend can be attributed primarily to a lack of nutritional knowledge and increasingly busy lifestyles, while a combination of public heath campaigns and responsible consumer behavior could encourage people to adopt healthier habits instead.

One of the primary drivers of the increase in this development is that people lack nutritional awareness. Due to a lack of education, consumers rely heavily on vitamin pills regardless of considering their adverse effects. The supplements such as multivitamins pills, protein powder and mineral syrup can have a negative impact on consumers' well-being. As a result, this can make people vulnerable to some health problems such as obesity, thyroid and liver damage. Another contributing factor associated with this trend is the busy lifestyles. Since individuals are excessively occupied in family commitments and workplace responsibilities, they are left with less time to prepare healthy food. This encourages people to perceive vitamin supplements as a quick solution.

Improving this development requires coordinated action from both governments and individual consumers. Government authorities can organize healthcare awareness campaigns highlighting the consequences of these artificial supplements and the benefits of nutritional food, which can allow consumers to develop a deep understanding of healthy habits. At the individual level, consumers can also make a significant contribution by choosing foods with natural nutritious values and reducing over reliance on vitamins pills. Healthy consuming habits not only improve their lifespan but also keep them energized throughout the day, thereby reducing overdependence on these supplements.

In conclusion, the increasing demand for consuming vitamins pills is largely attributable to a lack of nutritional knowledge and excessive busy lifestyles. Nevertheless, this development can be gradually reduced if government organize public health awareness campaigns while consumers adopt more sustainable consumption habits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt clearly. You have identified two main reasons for the consumption of vitamin pills (lack of knowledge and busy lifestyles) and proposed two solutions (government campaigns and individual behavioral changes). The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the explanation of why supplements cause health issues like 'thyroid and liver damage' is slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more specific evidence or logical links to the prompt's context. Overall, the position is clear throughout, and the response fulfills all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'As a result', 'Another contributing factor', and 'Nevertheless' to link sentences and paragraphs effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. The flow is smooth, and the referencing is clear, which contributes to a coherent and well-structured response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'nutritional awareness', 'coordinated action', and 'sustainable consumption habits' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'increasingly busy lifestyles' (which is slightly awkward) and 'multivitamins pills' (which should be 'multivitamin pills'). Additionally, 'healthy consuming habits' would be more naturally expressed as 'healthy eating habits'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is varied enough to convey your ideas clearly and appropriately for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over grammar, and most sentences are error-free. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'regardless of considering' (which should be 'without considering') and 'if government organize' (which should be 'if the government organizes'). Punctuation is generally accurate, and these minor slips do not impede communication. The range of structures is sufficient to support your arguments, and the overall grammatical control is solid.
