Student answer (Band 6.0)

Health experts telling us to consume balanced diet to get all the essential vitamins for the body. Regardless of this advice, individuals still spending huge amount of money to purchase vitamin pills because of hectic life and effective marketing. However, better education and easy access to healthy food could encourage people to consume healthy diet.

To begin with, limited amount of time in the individuals life make it difficult for them to prepare healthy meals on a daily basis. In other words, people prefer quick nutrient source to save time such as multi-vitamin pills. For instance, 60% of trade workers in China consume medical pills as a source of vitamin due to long working hours and have limited time to prepare nutrient food. Furthermore, some medical firm advertising their pills as a essential part of daily diet even after eating healthy meals. Therefore, people feel more confident after taking supplements because they believe it provides extra protection against nutritional deficiencies.

There are several ways to encourage people to take healthy diet. Firstly, government should introduce awareness campaigns to promote proper knowledge about the food and supplements. Moreover, educational hubs should introduce a diet education subject as a mandatory part of a primary school, which can help to build a structural knowledge in the people from early age. Lastly, the another best option to promote healthy diet is to decrease the taxes on healthy products.

To sum up, the main reasons behind talking supplements are misguided marketing and the limited time in the individuals people. Although, with the help of proper knowledge of healthy food and easy accessibility of healthy diet can be beneficial to promote healthy diet instead of spending large sum of money on supplements.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for supplement use and ways to encourage dietary changes. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of 'hectic life' and 'marketing', and the solutions provided, like 'awareness campaigns' and 'tax incentives', are logical. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example regarding 'trade workers in China' is specific but lacks a clear connection to the broader argument about why people generally choose pills over food. The conclusion is slightly repetitive and could have been more concise. Overall, the response covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, placing it firmly in the Band 6 category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Firstly', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'the another best option'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear or repetitive, such as 'the individuals people' in the conclusion. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated linking and occasional awkward phrasing prevent it from reaching a higher band. The paragraphing is appropriate and supports the overall structure of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'nutritional deficiencies' and 'supplements'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice or collocation errors, such as 'medical pills' instead of 'vitamin supplements' or 'diet education subject' instead of 'nutritional education'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'healthy diet'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more varied and precise vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Examples include missing articles ('consume balanced diet'), subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals still spending'), and awkward phrasing ('the another best option'). There are also punctuation and syntax errors, such as 'Although, with the help of... can be beneficial', which is a sentence fragment. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading is needed.
