Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the popularity of vitamin pills (hectic lifestyles and specific dietary needs) and suggesting relevant solutions (government awareness campaigns and education on absorption rates). The ideas are well-developed and supported with examples, such as the comparison between oranges and supplements. The position is clear throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could further elaborate on the 'synergy effect' mentioned, as it remains slightly vague. Overall, the response is well-focused and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to link ideas, such as 'To commence with,' 'Consequently,' and 'Furthermore.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing 'This can be done those adverts,' which impacts the smoothness of the transition. Despite these minor mechanical errors, the progression of ideas remains clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'nutritional value,' 'deficiency,' 'absorption rate,' and 'synergy effect.' There are some spelling errors, such as 'heaviely' instead of 'heavily' and 'campiagns' instead of 'campaigns,' as well as minor collocation issues like 'fullfill their vitamins.' While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and more natural collocations to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, though some contain grammatical slips, such as 'its also provides' (should be 'it also provides') and 'taking balance diet' (should be 'a balanced diet'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are occasional errors in sentence boundaries. The majority of the content is clear, and the grammatical errors do not cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should aim for more consistent accuracy in complex structures and articles.
