Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring why people spend money on vitamin pills—such as diet restrictions like vegetarianism and the high cost of local exotic produce—and suggesting ways people can improve their diet instead, such as reducing junk food and substituting ingredients. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth in places, such as the underdeveloped argument regarding weak bones. The conclusion is also quite brief and slightly garbled in expression. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6 by addressing all parts of the task with relevant, though occasionally under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and attempts logical paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes interrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices. For example, the sentence structure in the third paragraph uses abrupt transitions like 'Firstly reduce eating out' and 'lastly track your food consumption' which lack smooth integration. Referencing and pronoun use are occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'takes our food consumption and reduce buying vitamin pills by taking following steps'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better linking to reach a higher band. This corresponds to Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'diet restrictions', 'exotic products', and 'mobile applications'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'supplementaries' instead of 'supplements', 'chickpea floor' instead of 'flour', and 'fulfilled their body needs' instead of 'fulfill'. Spelling and word-formation errors occur (e.g., 'Everyday' used as a noun modifier for 'habits' where 'daily' is better), but they do not seriously impede overall communication. These features fit the Band 6 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('have balanced diet'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Those food contain'), run-on constructions, and awkward phrasing ('By late 40s they are compelled to take medicines to strengthen it'). Punctuation is also weak in places, particularly with run-on sentences in the third paragraph. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 6.5 or 7, placing it firmly at Band 5.5.
