Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the task by explaining why people spend money on vitamin pills and suggesting how they can be persuaded to improve their diet. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas lack full extension and development. For instance, the reason regarding time constraints is introduced well, but the discussion remains somewhat repetitive. Examples like YouTube recipes are given, but they could be elaborated further to fully satisfy the higher band descriptors. Nevertheless, all parts of the prompt are covered, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range. On balance, the task is answered satisfactorily, earning a band score of 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing specific prompts, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as reasons for buying pills versus solutions for time management. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical, with some awkward referencing and transitional phrases like 'Another significant factor how people be persuaded'. While the overall progression is generally clear, these minor mechanical lapses in cohesive devices place this criterion firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common items such as 'significant amount', 'competitive world', and 'consequences'. However, there are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'eating pills' instead of 'taking pills', 'ingrediants' (spelling error), and 'satify their hunger'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score to Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('have healthy diet'), incorrect prepositions ('towards healthy lifestyle'), and subject-verb agreement or tense shifts ('if they took pills'). While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they persist throughout the response and prevent the writer from achieving a higher band score. Control of grammar is representative of Band 6.0.
