Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people spend money on vitamin pills (such as lack of sunlight in countries like Canada and the UK) and suggesting how people could be persuaded to improve their diet (consulting a dietician or using internet research/AI tools). A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack deep extension or detailed supporting examples, keeping the response within the Band 6 level. For instance, the explanation regarding weather and vitamin D is relevant, but it remains brief and superficial. Similarly, the suggestions for persuasion are stated generally without robust elaboration. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand on their ideas with more fully developed explanations and concrete real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, though the structural flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical transitions and informal phrasing, such as 'in the upcoming paragraph i shall explain'. Cohesive devices are used, but some are repetitive or applied awkwardly, for instance, starting multiple sentences with 'due to' or 'there are some'. Referencing is generally clear, but sentence-to-sentence progression can feel disjointed at times. To improve coherence, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive ties and ensure that paragraph transitions guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next without relying on formulaic expressions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about diet and vitamins. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'deficiency', 'unavailability', and 'dietician', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'mentanance', 'unavaibility', 'Contries', 'Autralia', 'lonh', 'wintery', 'diatician', 'reseach', and 'acoording'. Furthermore, capitalization is frequently neglected at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching a higher band. A wider control of accurate word formation and collocation is required for Band 6.5 or above.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences, such as 'so the people reside in these countries think of the alternative way which is taking pills like Vitamin D pills to fulfill there needs'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms ('we used to have', 'how could it will be improved'), subject-verb agreement, preposition usage, and pronouns ('fulfill there needs'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with run-on sentences and missing capitalization. Because errors occur frequently throughout the response and occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, the grammar performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
