Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people prefer to purchase vitamin pills rather than consume healthy diet. which doctors recommend to eat. There are various factors such as modernization, and inexpensive production of vitamin pills. In this essay, I will also suggest the ways to overcome this issue with help of both government ad individuals.

Despite of doctors recommendation of eating healthy diet, people spend money on buying vitamin pills. This is particularly because of availability and affordability of these pills in the market. For example, a multivitamin pill have all essential nutrients which are hard to find in any fruits and vegetables. In addition to this, they are cheaper than natural nutrients which is not possible to afford by everyone. Therefore, consumption of vitamin pills is higher than natural supplements.

In order to switch to healthy diet, awareness is very necessary among people who spend money by purchasing vitamin pills. For this, government should lower the prices of natural sources of vitamin such as vegetables and fruits. Another solution will be awareness of knowing the consequence of artificial form of getting nutrients. This can be done through government and media, where people could see the implications on the body. By doing this, people will spend money on healthy diet.

To conclude, doctors advise patients that healthy diet can get all the vitamins rather than buying the vitamin pills. For this, government policies and awareness could help to adopt healthy lifestyle. In the end, people will stop purchasing the pills for vitamins and will get all nutrients from natural sources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing reasons why people spend money on vitamin pills, such as modernization, affordability, and the perception of getting all essential nutrients easily. It also suggests solutions such as government subsidies on fruits and vegetables and awareness campaigns through the media. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, falling short of full extension. For instance, the statement that a multivitamin pill has all essential nutrients which are hard to find in fruits and vegetables is inaccurate and underdeveloped. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the supporting arguments lack depth and specific illustrative examples from the author's own knowledge or experience. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text features a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each prompt question, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, there is a major punctuation error leading to a sentence fragment in the opening ('...healthy diet. which doctors recommend to eat.') and clumsy transitional phrases like 'In the end'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally feels disjointed, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph from affordability to nutrient content. These features reflect the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'modernization', 'availability', 'affordability', and 'implications'. There are, however, noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'consume healthy diet' (missing an article), 'natural supplements' used to describe fruits and vegetables, and 'awareness of knowing the consequence'. Spelling is generally accurate, but limitations in word choice and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey meaning, satisfying the criteria for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'In order to switch to healthy diet...' and 'By doing this, people will spend...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('consume healthy diet', 'with help of both government ad individuals'), a sentence fragment ('which doctors recommend to eat'), preposition errors ('Despite of doctors recommendation'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('a multivitamin pill have'). Although these errors do not seriously impede communication, their frequency prevents the writing from reaching a Band 6.5 or 7.0, aligning it firmly with Band 5.5.
