Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why people spend large sums on vitamin pills and suggesting persuasive methods to encourage healthy diets. The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are generally relevant, such as discussing laziness and the myth surrounding pills, as well as proposing higher taxes on supplements and cooking classes in schools. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed and rely on broad generalisations, such as the claim that modern and rich people always take medication. Supporting examples could have been more specific and fully explored to reach a higher band level. Nevertheless, the task requirements are fulfilled adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Second reason is myth' lack necessary articles, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Cohesive devices are present, but their usage is not always flexible or smooth enough to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'healthcare provider', 'supplements', and 'balanced diet'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('minrals', 'suppliments', 'balaned', 'althogh', 'Governmennt') and lexical inaccuracies, such as 'spend lots of money behind the pills' instead of 'on the pills' and 'nutrients food' instead of 'nutritious food'. These errors indicate a Band 6 level where vocabulary is sufficient for communication, but recurring flaws prevent higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and subordinate clauses ('Although, many healthcare provider suggest...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('individuals good health', 'healthy diet'), subject-verb agreement issues ('healthcare provider suggest'), and awkward phrasing ('To get the change in society'). While these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they occur often enough to prevent the grammar from reaching a Band 7 level.
