Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people spend money on vitamin pills, such as convenience and the desire for quick effects, and suggesting ways people could be persuaded to improve their diet, including through school books, news channels, and social media. The writer takes a clear position that a balanced whole-food diet is superior and that supplements can be harmful, citing a personal example regarding a Bollywood actor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and includes disjointed fragments at the very beginning of the response. The supporting example is slightly confused in expression. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed with relevant, albeit somewhat brief, ideas, placing this performance at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing the two prompt questions, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The transition from the disjointed bullet-point notes at the start into the formal essay text is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with ambiguous pronouns and phrases like 'its adverse impact'. Paragraphing is utilized sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, but internal logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt shifts. This corresponds to a Band 5.5 performance, rounded to a stable Band 6.0 based on overall structural organization.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'supplementary medicines', 'nutritious value', 'amenioration', and 'paramount role'. However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'we should to take balance-diet', 'convient option', 'body needs on the hectic schedule', and 'promting anything'. Spelling errors also appear, including 'convient', 'knowdege', 'alraming', 'sitatutaion', 'amerloration', 'alot', and 'citezens'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, grammatical inaccuracies are frequent throughout the response. Examples of errors include 'we should to take balance-diet', 'taking a whole nutritious value in a plate is the remedy of all the diseases', 'It ended up having kidney and liver damage', and 'amerloration on taking healthy diet is paramount role'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent, such as commas separating independent clauses improperly or missing articles before singular countable nouns. Because errors frequently occur and can cause some difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.0.
