Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently, people are becoming more dependent on vitamin pills and avoiding healthy diet recommended by doctors to fulfill vitamin requirements. There are several reasons associated with this trend such as easy availability of pills and time consumption in food preparation and cooking, government and doctors can initiate certain measures to avoid depending on medications.

People are losing their will power to perform physical excercise and have healthy diet because of fast changing lifestyle and dependency on fast food compared to home cooked meals and being phycially active. They target to achieve vitamins requirements via supplements due to assessibility without prescription and at cost effective price in bulk. It provides them convenience over finance and time required to prepare and cook meals at home in morden life. For instance, a person works full day and lives alone depends on having his/her food from some restaurant rather than getting grocery and making own food items, in that case to meet the required vitamins supply he/she is forced to consume tablets that easily provides vitamins as needed.

However, to force the trend of spending a lot of money on pills and getting proper diet governments can restrict selling of vitamins pills only if prescribed by doctors. Certain rules and regulations can encourage people to depend on having healthy food items to get vitamin needs. On the other hand independent bodies in association with doctors can educate people about adverse effects of taking artificial medications on daily basis, by publishing certain advertisements on media . Medical professionals can guide people about advantages of healthy diet in comparison with artificial vitamins supplements. For instance, consuming eggs are equally healthy to get required vitamins and minerals on daily basis along with protein supply, as eggs are the natural source of basic nutritions required by a living being.

Overall, with better guidance and information people can be infuenced to have a healty diet instead of depending on unnatural sources of nutritions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons why people spend money on vitamin pills and suggesting how they can be persuaded to improve their diet. The writer's position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are presented and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of full-day workers living alone and the comparison to consuming eggs. However, some arguments lack full extension and are slightly repetitive, leaning towards a Band 6.0 or 6.5. For instance, the discussion on lifestyle factors could have been probed deeper. Overall, the prompt is adequately covered with a clear stance and supportive details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. Ideas are generally logically sequenced, though transitions between sentences can occasionally feel mechanical. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'For instance' and 'However', but referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen with 'to force the trend' which creates slight confusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, allowing the reader to follow the train of thought easily despite minor lapses in cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'artificial medications', 'accessibility', and 'nutritional requirements'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'excercise', 'phycially', 'assessibility', 'morden', and 'infuenced', along with minor collocation slips like 'force the trend' instead of 'reverse the trend'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band due to inaccuracies in word formation and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'a person works full day and lives alone depends on having his/her food...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing relative pronouns, verb agreements, and preposition usage, such as 'avoiding healthy diet' instead of 'avoiding a healthy diet' and 'on daily basis' instead of 'on a daily basis'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies can occasionally cause minor strain for the reader.
