Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, we often see people go to the doctor even without any reason. This can cost them a very high amount.

While we know that we can get most of the vitamins from natural sources. we can maintain our budget while having a great portion of healthy fruits and getting nutrition from them, which can be very beneficial to our health and our pocket.

However, some people still think that they can get better vitamins only when they take pills. But some of them have to do so as they don't have enough time to spend on themselves, as they are living a busy life due to heavy work life. so they prefer taking pills.

On the other hand, if we see it psychologically, some people think that only pills can give them the vitamins their body needs. Moreover, according to them, it can cost them less than buying healthy foods.

In my point of view, we have way more natural sources which does not cost us much if we get them the correct way. Moreover, those pills is going to harm our bodies anyway in the long term, such as some of the medicines directly affecting the liver of the human body. And sometimes taking a large amount of pills can also take you to the doorstep of the hospital, which can be way more expensive.

There are plenty of ways to get vitamins automatically; for example, we can get vitamin D3 from the sun even without nit knowing it that we are getting it. So if a person goes for a morning walk, he is maintaining his body plus he is also getting vitamin D3 from the sun.

Lastly, nature is giving us all the important and beneficial things free of cost, but we are ignoring it due to our busy schedule

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why some people spend money on vitamin pills, mentioning busy lifestyles and psychological beliefs, and how they could be persuaded to improve their diet, referencing natural sources like morning sunlight. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the opening sentences discuss going to the doctor, which is somewhat tangential to the core topic of vitamin pills and diets. Furthermore, the second part of the prompt concerning persuasion is only briefly touched upon with the example of walking in the sun, lacking a clear, extended discussion on active persuasion strategies. Consequently, the task is addressed adequately, but the depth of support places the response at a Band 6 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical progression attempted through cohesive devices like 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover'. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular and fragmented, with several very short paragraphs that disrupt the natural flow of ideas. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'if we see it psychologically' and 'according to them'. While the progression of ideas is generally understandable, the mechanical use of cohesive elements and choppy paragraph structure prevents the response from achieving a higher band score, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'natural sources', 'budget', and 'long term'. There are, however, noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'heavy work life' instead of 'busy work schedule', and 'nit knowing it' (a typo for 'not'). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary phrases like 'take you to the doorstep of the hospital', but minor lexical errors and occasional awkward phrasing occur throughout the text. Communication is never impeded, placing the lexical range comfortably at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'While we know that we can get...'. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including sentence fragments ('so they prefer taking pills.') and subject-verb agreement issues ('those pills is going to harm'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with lowercase starts after periods and run-on structures. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and does not impede communication, which reflects the characteristics of Band 6 grammar.
