Student answer (Band 6.5)

Most health professionals advised that taking a proper and healthy diet can replace the need of extra suplements such as vitamin pills. Despite, some individuals still spend a considerable amount of money on suplements. The main reasons behind this trend are organised advertisments of suplement companies and hectic lifestyle of people. This essay will discuss some fruitful measures to cope with this issue.

To begin with, one major reason of taking extra suplements is that the modern lifestyle of people is significantly busy to maintain personal and professional life. As a result, they do not have a sufficient time to prepare a each meal in a healthy way and they find the vitamin pills more convenient and effective. Moreover, some suplement companies are trying to play with individuals mind to promot their product in that way, where they advertise the need of suplements even after taking healthy diet. Therefore, people try to play safe and they think it is an essential to take the extra caustions.

Nevertheless, there are several ways to resolve this problem. Firstly, the goveronment and health professionals could run the awareness campaigns to promote an importance of balanced and proper diet rather then depent on suplements. In addition, educational insititutes should teach their scholars about how to make proper calculations of nutrients in their daily meals, this knowledge not only can they promote health awareness in their familes but also it can help them to prepare their minds about the benefits of healthy diet.

In conclusion, a targeted advertismnet technique of the suplement companies and a poor life-balance of citizens are the two main reasons of promoting vitamin pills. However, I think the joint campaigning of diet awareness and the school education can be helpful to cope with this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons why people spend money on vitamin pills and ways they could be persuaded to improve their diet. The position is clear throughout the essay. The reasons provided—namely hectic modern lifestyles and aggressive advertising by supplement companies—are relevant and extended with supporting ideas. Similarly, the suggested solutions, involving government awareness campaigns and educational institutes, are well-developed. However, there are minor generalisations in the development, which places the response comfortably at Band 6.5 to 7.0. Given that all parts of the task are adequately covered with clear supporting arguments, the performance aligns well with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing the causes and solutions, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless'. Paragraphing is used appropriately. However, referencing and transitional links occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the use of 'suplement' and 'diet' pairings. Overall, the logical flow is clear, and the coherence meets the criteria for Band 6.5, rounding to 6.0 due to some minor mechanical cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms like 'health professionals', 'hectic lifestyle', and 'nutrients'. Less common lexical items are attempted, although there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'suplements' instead of 'supplements', 'advertisments' instead of 'advertisements', 'goveronment' instead of 'government', and 'insititutes' instead of 'institutes'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The writer shows an awareness of style and topic-specific vocabulary, but the persistent spelling mistakes prevent a higher score, making Band 6.0 an accurate assessment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'this knowledge not only can they promote health awareness... but also it can help them'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing instances, such as 'advised that taking a proper and healthy diet can replace the need of extra suplements', 'busy to maintain', and 'prepare a each meal'. Inversion is attempted with 'not only can they promote', but it contains a structural error. Because errors in grammar and punctuation are frequent enough to detract from fluency without impeding overall comprehension, the performance fits Band 6.0.
