Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's era, most of the people are
highly concerned about their healthy lifestyle.
However, doctors advice us that there
is no need to spend huge money on
vitamin pills as all the essential vitamins
we need are present in a healthy diet.
There are many people who still spend
money on these pills due to different
reasons. In this essay, the reasons of
this behaviour along with the measures to
persuade people not to buy pills are discussed.
To begin with, I believe most of the
people still buy vitamin pills because
of food adulteration. They believe that
all the healthy items like milk, eggs,
flour, rice are not pure. Therefore, they
chose to complete their vitamins through
an alternative of vitamin pills. Moreover,
the other biggest reason of high sale
of these pills is advertisement by
the popular celebrities. For example,
famous celebrities like Salman Khan,
Amitabh Bochan are promoting these
pills. Therefore, people are easily influenced
by them.
Furthermore, to convince people to
improve their diet instead of buying vitamin pills, company's selling these items like Amul, Verka should provide a scientific proof and label which shows that the particular item contains enough protein, carbs or fats. Adding to this, government should arrange seminars to aware people about the benefits of healthy diet and disadvantages of these vitamin pills.
To conclude, people have different reasons to buy these pills. Some of them are influenced by famous personalities, some are just following the trend and some are choosing these pills as an alternative due to food adulteration. However, they should be more aware about the damages of these pills and they should follow healthy diet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both why people spend money on vitamin pills (such as food adulteration and celebrity advertising) and how they could be persuaded otherwise (through scientific proof, food labeling, and government seminars). A clear position is maintained throughout the essay, and the ideas are supported with relevant examples, including named celebrities like Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. While some of the supporting points could be slightly more fully extended, the main parts of the task are adequately covered, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0. Because the ideas are relevant and properly extended, the score aligns solidly with Band 6.0 leaning towards 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used to structure the text, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the reasons for buying pills versus the persuasive measures. Referencing is generally clear, and although cohesion could be slightly more flexible to reach higher bands, the overall arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 rating.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, with terms like 'food adulteration', 'alternative', and 'influenced'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'spend huge money' instead of 'spend a huge amount of money', 'chose to complete their vitamins' instead of 'choose to obtain their vitamins', and 'company's selling' instead of 'companies selling'. Spelling is generally accurate, but minor lexical errors and awkward collocations place this writing firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, such as 'doctors advice us' (noun/verb confusion), 'reasons of this behaviour' (preposition error for 'reasons for'), and a punctuation error in 'company's selling'. Despite these frequent minor errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and the reader can easily follow the argument. This performance aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
