Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 127 words. Consequently, the prompt's two core questions—explaining why people spend money on vitamin pills and how to persuade them to improve their diet—are only addressed in a very minimal and tangential manner. The student attempts to introduce the topic and mentions doctor advice, but ideas are severely under-developed with almost no extension or supporting examples. The position remains unclear as the writing trails off before developing a coherent argument. To achieve a higher band, the writer must fully address all parts of the prompt, provide detailed reasons and relevant examples, and write at least the minimum required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organization of the response shows basic attempts at structuring a text, but information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the second paragraph is indented awkwardly and contains irregular spacing. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or used inaccurately, as seen in the excessive and mechanical repetition of 'so' and 'firstly'. Progression is lacking because the text jumps between ideas without clear logical transitions or consistent referencing. To improve, the writer needs to ensure a clear overall progression of ideas, use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive devices naturally, and structure paragraphs logically with clear topic sentences and supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday words and phrases such as 'happy and healthy life style', 'more energy', and 'eating vitamins'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation—such as 'fullfil', 'comapred', 'debaits', 'suppliments', 'thinks', 'diiet', and 'healty'—which strain the reader and reflect a limited lexical range. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'technological era', inaccuracies impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student must expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word forms and collocations, and minimize spelling mistakes by proofreading their work carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are numerous issues with verb forms, tense usage, articles, and punctuation, such as missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and after full stops, and awkward comma placement in 'but , there is also a debaits'. Attempted complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction, improve punctuation, and practice forming error-free complex sentences with accurate grammatical agreements.
