Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially, which is characteristic of this level. While both parts of the task are touched upon—explaining why people spend money on vitamin pills and suggesting ways to persuade them to improve their diet—the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the explanation regarding physical activity and hectic schedules is repetitive and lacks strong supporting examples. The reasoning tends to loop without advancing the argument effectively. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop their main ideas by explaining the psychological or lifestyle factors behind vitamin pill consumption in greater depth and providing well-fleshed-out, relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic level of organisation with clear paragraphing used to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the overall progression is limited, and cohesive devices are often inaccurate, mechanical, or overused. Words like 'Thus' and 'Moreover' are sometimes employed awkwardly, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'Many reasons of that is...'. The transition between sentences can feel disjointed, which hinders the smooth flow of ideas. Improving this criterion requires the writer to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each sentence leads logically and smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'hectic schedule', 'physical problems', and 'awareness', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'camping' instead of 'campaign', 'benefit of fruits' instead of 'benefits of fruit', and awkward phrases like 'guide to them'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, improve their control of collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and article use, such as 'Doctors said that' instead of present tense general statements, 'large amount of money... are invested', and 'guide to people by spreading awareness about physical activity'. Attempts at complex sentences frequently result in structural faults and awkward phrasing. To move up, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex structures and improve fundamental grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms, prepositions within phrases, and basic clause construction.
