Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both why people spend money on vitamin pills and how they could be persuaded to improve their diet. The position is generally clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph provides some clear reasons for pill consumption—such as a lack of knowledge and opting for the easiest approach—the second body paragraph touches on multiple ideas like frozen food, doctors' advice, internet searches, and dieticians without fully exploring any single solution in depth. This mix of under-developed and well-covered points places the task response in the middle tier, fulfilling the requirements for the lower band while showing glimpses of fully extended arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, separating the causes from the solutions, although the third paragraph is quite dense and tackles several separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Primarily', 'Similarly', and 'Undoubtedly', but their usage can occasionally feel mechanical or forced, as seen with 'Over and above'. Referencing is generally understandable, but transitions between sentences occasionally lack smooth progression, resulting in a slightly disjointed flow that prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of logical organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'contemporary era', 'working professionals', and 'dietician'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples include 'diary products' instead of 'dairy products', 'a Vitamin D deficiency person' instead of 'a person with a Vitamin D deficiency', 'optin a easiest approach', and 'desire results' instead of 'desired results'. While these lexical errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough and restrict the vocabulary to a limited, minimally adequate range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there are persistent errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions throughout the text. Examples include 'For a same purpose', 'As per Doctor's', 'this attitude should replaced by', 'adding a diary products', 'engage a habit', 'opting a easiest approach', and 'taking out a time'. Punctuation and article usage are also flawed in places, such as 'from in a whole day'. These errors require some effort to decode, though they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical control firmly in the mid-range.
