Student answer (Band 6.0)

Doctors have claimed that people can gain all the vitamins by eating healthy food. Several individuals still choose to spend a considerable amount of money on vitamin pills. From my perspective, people are purchasing vitamin pills to overcome the deficiency of necessary substances in their body. Whereas, they can be motivated to eat healthy by running campaigns.

One of the compelling reasons of buying supplements is the lifestyle choices. Some people choose to restrict their diet to vegetarian meals which provides limited supply of necessary vitamins to human body. Research has shown that people only consuming plant based produce often suffer from lack of Vitamin E, B12 and so on. Additionally, unhealthy eating habits like unbalanced diet and eating not on time disturbs the mechanism of body. This creates challenges in digestion and proper consumption of nutrients from meals at random intervals. Eventually, individuals have to take vitamin pills in order to keep a balance of necessary components.

Conversely, the public can be encouraged to adopt healthy living conditions by making them aware about the affects of taking medicines regularly. Moreover, the nutritionist must be provided to offer support to people so they can plan their meals which will include all essential nutrients for the body. They can also supply preprepared meals which offer a balanced proportion for an individual.

In conclusion, undoubtedly individuals who practise unhealthy lifestyle do not options than considering vitamin pills to complete their demand in body. However, medicine consumption can be reduced by providing suggestions for balanced meals by nutrients specialists.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both why people spend money on vitamin pills and how they can be persuaded to improve their diet. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are developed unevenly. While the reasons behind vitamin pill consumption, such as dietary restrictions and unhealthy habits, are explained reasonably well, the suggestions on how to persuade the public are somewhat limited and lack deep extension. For instance, the mention of running campaigns and providing nutritionists is introduced without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. This places the response comfortably at this level, as all parts are covered, but certain sections remain brief and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the reasons for pill consumption to solutions involving diet improvement. Paragraphing is used appropriately, dividing the response into a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'One of the compelling reasons', 'Additionally', and 'Conversely'. However, cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen with transitional phrases like 'Whereas, they can be motivated...' where the connection between sentences lacks seamless flow. Referencing is mostly clear, though some minor mechanical links prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common vocabulary with varying degrees of success, using terms like 'compelling reasons', 'lifestyle choices', and 'nutrients specialists'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'eating not on time' instead of eating irregularly, 'affects of taking medicines' where 'effects' should be used, and 'do not options than considering' in the final paragraph, which contains grammatical and lexical interference. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical range to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional ideas. There is adequate control over basic structures, but errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions are present throughout the text. Examples include 'gain all the vitamins by eating healthy food' (missing article or noun specification), 'the nutritionist must be provided to offer support' (passive voice misuse), and 'complete their demand in body' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally acceptable. These errors persist in complex structures, but they rarely impede communication, allowing the essay to meet the criteria for this band level.
